About this job:

The Dean of Instruction is part of the leadership team. You will coordinate the instruction of students, design curriculum, and foster a positive atmosphere for an academic institution. The Dean of Instruction will motivate students to succeed and coach teachers to become better educators.

What You'll Do:

* Work closely with the principal, assistant principal and team leads, if present, as a part of the school's Instructional Leadership Team (ILT).
* Support the implementation of a targeted approach to job-embedded professional development to meet the needs of all learners. Builds on strengths and supports growth in challenge areas for all instructional staff in order to support dramatic and accelerated improvements in student achievement.
* Support teachers, team leads, and team specialists in the implementation of effective practices to address the needs of all learners, including observing and giving feedback to teacher leaders in their leadership role.
* Develop protocols and implement calibration activities among the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) to ensure that all instructional leaders share the same standard for instructional excellence and to support ILT members' ability to identify the most actionable feedback.

The Dean of Instruction assists the site Principal in developing a healthy school community and culture under the principle of “College for Certain”. This role is primarily focused on assisting the school in developing and refining the academic program provided to students. Deans of Instruction focus their energies on staff professional development and support, aligning educational offerings to match student needs and evaluating the success of the academic program.

What You Will Do:

Instruction, Monitoring, & Staff Development

  • Support and assist administration with efforts to ensure academic and operational programs of high quality and in compliance with any applicable regulations
  • Design and implement instructional programs that strengthen teaching skills and advancement of students
  • Maintain curriculum standards through sound leadership practices that can be demonstrated through coaching, modeling and instruction for teaching staff
  • Plan and conduct teacher training programs and conferences in relation to new classroom procedures, instructional materials and equipment, and teaching aids
  • Monitor, identify trends, and analyze data including report preparation to increase student achievement using such systems as OnCourse and PowerSchool
  • Coordinate and/or support Cycle of Inquiry sessions
  • Chair or participate in the RTI committee
  • Support teachers in developing and fostering strong classroom climates that support student academic achievement
  • Oversee administration of state or Aspire-required assessments

Leadership
