At Adelphi, Garden City, students are challenged to reach their full potential in an environment rich with tradition and history. The university offers over 30 majors, ranging from Political Science to Anthropology to History, as well as minors, graduate programs, post-doctoral programs, and even special programs like English as a Second Language. The College of Lake County, in the Chicago suburb of Grayslake, Illinois, serves students with different educational needs, and of different backgrounds. Like most community colleges, CLC offers numerous standard courses and programs leading to associate's degrees or certificates in such areas as the arts, health sciences, math, business and social sciences. However, Lake County also offers programs for students whose needs fall outside these more conventional parameters. For example, there is a program for adults over age 50 that includes classes, lectures and tours in subjects ranging from art history to current events to computers. At the opposite end of the age spectrum is a kid's college, which offers enrichment and academic classes for children ages 6 to 16. Numerous continuing and adult-education options may be explored at Lake County as well. Lake County's sessions also include less traditional options to accommodate those with certain scheduling needs. For example, a three-week intercession allows students to complete a course for credit in a shortened amount of time. Lake County's student services are also quite accommodating. In addition to academic advising and a career services center, there are numerous other forms of support for students of different backgrounds. For example, there is a women's services center specifically designed to provide academic and emotional support to female students. There is also a wellness center, a massage therapy clinic and a prevention services program for those at risk for substance abuse. In addition to tuition payment plans, the College of Lake County offers federal work-study, loans, grants and scholarships to eligible students needing financial assistance.

As part of one of the larger community college systems in the country, Shasta College has numerous academic opportunities. Among them is a program that allows Shasta students to earn a bachelor's and even a master's degree. Associate's degrees are awarded in such fields as Business, Agriculture, Social Sciences, and Liberal and Fine Arts. Healthcare degrees are granted in such fields as Nursing, Vocational Nursing, Dental Hygiene and Home Health professions. Shasta also has a highly innovative program that allows students to attend Shasta while earning an advanced degree through Chico State University. This partnership program with Chico State allows students to pursue bachelor's degrees in Business Administration, Liberal Studies and Sociology, among others. Master's degrees are also awarded through the Chico State program in such fields as Nursing and Social Work. Students who wish to earn their bachelor's degree elsewhere or in a subject not offered at Shasta may also transfer to universities and colleges throughout the state and beyond, which many do. Enrichment opportunities also abound at Shasta. In addition to recreational activities such as hiking afforded by Shasta's natural surroundings, there are on-campus student activities. Performing arts opportunities and numerous student clubs and organizations are some examples. Student services include tutoring, disability support, career and personal counseling and health and wellness services. Since Shasta also participates in programs with numerous state and other organizations such as CalWorks, students from certain populations may also receive additional assistance, both financial and otherwise, when embarking on their education. Admission is open to anyone with a high school diploma or GED and tuition is significantly lower for California residents. Students may also apply for federal grants, loans and scholarships.
