Substitute Teacher

Overview:


The Substitute Teacher position is a temporary teaching role that involves working on an as-needed basis to assist schools in the Columbia School District. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, manage a classroom, and maintain a safe and calm environment for students.
Responsibilities:

* Follow teacher lesson plans

* Maintain a safe and calm teaching environment

* Model appropriate behavior

* Apply appropriate classroom management techniques

* Direct paraeducators in their duties

Qualifications:

* Hold a Bachelor's Degree

* Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

* Able to meet the Physical Demands of the position

* Pass a background check, which includes employee-paid fingerprinting

* Provide positive recommendations/references from previous supervisors

* Able and available to work Monday-Friday, hours vary depending on assignment

* Able to work in any classroom, including all special services classrooms

* Supervise the care of disabled children, including toileting and other needed responsibilities

* Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures

* Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities

* Demonstrate evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety

* Demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members, and other concerned people

* Use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information, and read and respond to email

* Become first-aid certified, if required

* Maintain evidence of positive evaluations, excellent attendance and punctuality, evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter

* Adhere to and maintain confidentiality in accordance with the law and Columbia School District (CSD) policy
