Position Summary: This position plans, organizes and directs work of other surveyors and technicians engaged in surveying the earth's surface to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, area, and contours for construction, mapmaking, utility locations, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), land division, titles or other purposes. The successful candidate will promote safe work practices of all survey staff. They will evaluate progress of the staff, obtain results, and recommend major changes to achieve overall results. They will also represent the company in meetings and conferences with clients and potential clients. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Assemble field data, perform survey calculations, and prepare legal descriptions Manage operations of multiple field crews Provide quality control and quality assurance on all project work Prepare and monitor project budgets and billing Responsible for client management on projects Business development for discipline in market Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities Perform other related duties as assigned Required Skills General understanding of survey plan preparation using Inroads/Microstation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must Familiarity with subsurface utility designating and locating preferred Familiarity with aerial mapping, LiDAR scanning and sUAS is preferred Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening Valid Driver's License Required Able to pass Background Check Required Experience High school diploma or equivalent 10+ years of experience in surveying Professional Registered Land Surveyor A working knowledge of Federal, State and local jurisdiction surveying regulations is required Working Conditions Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 35 lbs) may be required as needed. Essential Functions and Responsibilities * Perform inspection of contractor's operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specifications * Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the project * Measure and track quantities of pay items * Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector's daily diaries * Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues * Perform other related duties as assigned Required Skills * Strong verbal and written communication skills * Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening Required Experience * Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience * Active driver's license * Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans * Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems * Thorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard Drawings * NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred * Experience with local clients preferred Working Conditions Work is performed in the field. Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.
