The brothers prided themselves on providing quality lumber to the local farmers and tradesmen. It all started in 1887, when the Lampert brothers, Jacob and Leonard, purchased a lumber yard in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.
Their next lumber yard was purchased in Mankato, Minnesota in 1890.
By 1900, the brothers were dealing with such a great supply of lumber that they moved their headquarters to the Twin Cities so that they could be closer to their lumber supply.
1927 – Dower Lumber was purchased by The Lampert Lumber Company.
In 1928, Horace stepped up as president of Lampert Yards.
1935 – Ray Ronning moved to Cook and began working at Lampert Lumber, he later became the Manager
However, Horace’s untimely death in 1938 then led the business to be taken over by his brother-in-law John K. Fesler.
Under the leadership of John K. Fesler, Lampert Lumber grew quite a bit until his retirement in 1966.
1968 – Lampert Lumber decided to close the yard in Cook and Ray Ronning purchased the yard with his son-in-law Dean Buchanan and began operating it as the Cook Building Center
1972 – Dean was a silent partner until 1972 when he quit his job with the United States Forest Service to become the manager.
1972 – In the summer of 1972 the Littlefork River, which is adjacent to the lumberyard flooded with a 100 year flood level and the inside of the office area had 4” of water in it.
1991 – Greg & Ellen Burckhardt purchase the building center from Dean.
2007 – With the employee count going up and the business environment changing plans and construction on a new store started on an adjacent lot in order to increase the size of the showroom and develop more office space.
2008 – Cook Building Center moved into their new building of 4,608 sq ft.
In 2012, Lampert Yards changed their name to Lampert Lumber.
Lampert Lumber was purchased in 2015 by US LBM and even though the ownership has changed the name of the company and service they provide remains the same.
