The GEICO Springfield IT Department is looking for a highly motivated candidate to join our team. We are looking for a dependable individual seeking a career in the information technology field. The ideal candidate will be experienced in supporting a Microsoft client/server workshop with a Windows 7/10 client background, CISCO VoIP phone system and a Ethernet router/switch network in a 5,500 plus user environment. This job requires an understanding of the importance of 100% uptime during prime business hours. This position is considered a day shift job that requires being on-call 24/7 once a month. On occasion travel to other regional offices may be required. Lifting 50 lbs. is a must. A technical assessment will be given to qualified candidates. Pay will commensurate with experience and skills.
Responsibilities:

1. Selected candidates must be able to troubleshoot and assist with the Tier 2 support tickets; examples, moves, keyboard and mouse replacements, monitor installations and cleanup of the rooms and communication closets.

2. To provide support for the LAN technicians as well as end user workstations.

3. Resolve basic problems with computer and network systems

4. Install computer and network systems following set procedures

5. Provide basic customer support for computer and network systems

Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Related field or 35 years' experience preferred
* Must be able to lift Servers, PCs and printers in the 40 - 50 pound range
* Strong communications, both written and verbal
* Experience with technical writing

As a Land Technician /Cable Engineer supporting the Department of Energy, you will be trusted to work on the Cable Plant and be responsible for installation and documentation of new and/or updated Inside Plant cable infrastructure to include conduit, cable trays, copper, coax, fiber and all associated elements. In this role, a typical day will include:

* Our Cable Technician is responsible for tasks assigned by Coordinators in connection with service orders and repair activities related to Category 6 cabling, Voice over IP networks (VOIP), and fiber optic cabling infrastructure.

* Ability to work well with others and communicate with supervisors. Computer literate with basic Networking Skills
* Interprets service orders, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematics
* Tests, locates, installs, and repairs cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls, and performs routine maintenance
* Verifies work order information and receipt of all necessary equipment and information
* Verifies service by testing installed cabling; identifying, correcting, or escalating problems
* Well versed in the use of network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs and fiber power meters.
* Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications
* Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation
* Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned
* Participates in special projects as required
* Identify, track and remove abandoned cable, and keep cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standards
* Dress, terminate and test cables and components including CAT6 and fiber optic cabling.
