POSITION SUMMARY: The primary function of the Production or Advanced Machinist is to staff machine in production, monitor product as produced, and utilize skills listed below to assist Set-up and Advanced Machinists as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (essential functions of the position):

For the assigned area and products:
• Power up machines and zero return axis to the home position.
• Follow prescribed quality procedures including, identifying all dimensions established at machining operation and check established dimensions via the in-process inspection sheet.
• Make offsets to tools or work positions to obtain a dimensionally acceptable product.
• Knowledge of surface finish and is capable of changing tools as required to maintain the finish.
• Utilize shop traveler for use in production to verify correct material, size of the material, the quantity of material, any additional notes on material or work instructions that differ from customer print.
• Knowledge and execution of start-up procedures following machine crash or major tool breakage.
• Support workplace organization efforts including removing fixtures, vices, and stops and placing in the identified area following job, replacing tooling and small tools in the identified area following job, and cleaning machine.
• Follow prescribed procedures for time reporting and scrap reporting via data collection to provide accurate data for job costing.
• Follow prescribed safety procedures.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

NONESSENTIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS (not necessary but preferred):
• Previous machining.
• Blueprint reading.
• Understanding and application of GD&T.

Turbocam International lathe machinist job description

The Machinist I is responsible for the operation, set-up and utilization of the 5-axis mill machines and lathe machines as well as the other support processes used in the prototyping and production of machined products.

* Perform set-up and operation of 5-axis milling machines and/or lathe machines. Inspect finish tools.
* Perform basic TruePath and /or Mastercam operations.
* Advise and consult with product development engineers, programmers and/or tooling department for cutting tools and tooling needed to complete projects.
* Maintain fixtures and set-ups for use in specified projects as assigned by the product development engineer or supervisor.
* Be alert to any changes in machine performance and operation, promptly report any issues to the maintenance department and work with them to make sure issues are resolved.
* Inspect and document all operations as stated in the Quality Manual and based on requirements of the product development engineer.
* Perform daily maintenance on machines.
* Support and maintain overall shop efficiency by keeping work areas clean and safe. Report all hazards or incidents to supervisor. Cooperate and coordinate with other machinists for usage of shared shop equipment.
* Perform other duties as necessary.

Qualifications & Requirements

* High school diploma or GED equivalent.
* Associates Degree in machining or approved apprenticeship program preferred.
* 2 or more years' experience as a CNC Mill operator and/or Lathe operator including basic set-up.
* Basic understanding of trigonometry.
* Intermediate level in MS Office: Outlook, Word, and Excel and ERP software preferred (Epicor helpful).
* Good knowledge of GD&T and ANSI Y 14.5.
* Experience with blue print reading and use of metrology tools.
* Requires lifting and carrying of up to 30 lbs. or more and standing for extended periods of time.

**Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:**

Studying blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions and reference points on materials or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining. Selecting, aligning, and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, and grinders. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. May verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments. Setting up and operating machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. May fit and assemble parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools. Verifying dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges and gauge blocks. May install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance. May develop specifications from general description and draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated. May confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
