Summary of Position: Temp to Hire | 8am to 4:30pm
Reporting to the Shipping Manager, the Lead Shipper needs to possess expertise of all aspects of the shipping operations. This position leads the daily tasks of the assigned shippers/preppers and supports the Shipping Manager to ensure customer orders are fulfilled on time and delivery quality is assured within a rapidly growing and fast-changing small business organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ability to effectively train and monitor progress of shippers/preppers on all stations.
Lead assigned shippers/preppers in identifying, distributing, and balancing workload tasks
Ensure assigned shipper/preppers are working productively and efficiently
Provide input to Shipping Manager regarding shipping workforce and equipment needs
Monitor and help manager flow of shipping que, assignments, and launches
Help Shipping Manager assess and develop potential shipping efficiency improvements as needed
Work with UPS/FedEx systems and shipping binder to ship materials
Identify and report behavioral problems to Shipping Manger
Act as an additional resource for manpower shortages
Back up for Shipping Manger as needed, including:
Supervises and check for accuracy
Accountable for trouble shooting and making judgement calls for shipping department
Education and Experience:
High school diploma, general education degree (GED) or equivalent experience
Basic computer skills required with Excel and Word
Skills Desired:
Ability to provide guidance, instruction, and leadership to a group
Good planning, judgment, and organizational skills
Assertive and can appropriately delegate when needed
Can demonstrate expert knowledge of assigned tasks within shipping operations
Advanced knowledge or shipping binder, UPS/FedEx systems
