**Overview**

Element has an opportunity for a **Machine Operator/Machinist** to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, the Machining position performs a variety of routine and non-routine machining assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision.

**Responsibilities**

+ Using cutting equipment to prepare specimens for testing as dictated in customer specifications

+ Maintain equipment and schedules preventative maintenance

+ Frequently provided guidance from Department Manager, Machinist/Senior Machinist coworkers

+ Gathering and recording dimensions in accordance with quality assurance requirements

**Skills / Qualifications**

+ High School diploma or GED or equivelent experience

+ Minimum of 2 years' experience in a machine shop environment in lieu of education

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Completion of work orders and corresponding paperwork
  • Machining of customer product in a fast-paced environment focusing on safety, quality, and productivity
  • Basic Blueprint reading and understanding of GD&T
  • Basic tool setting and G-code program editing
  • Operation of various inspection equipment used in the manufacture of precision machined parts
  • Handling and packing of parts that adhere to customer requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Run production, monitoring the machining process, check parts throughout run making necessary adjustments to conform to specifications. Select tools based on process and various materials.
  • Monitor entire run, due to unique forgings, when using edited or new program to ensure safe run conditions and quality specifications are met.
  • Prior to loading part, identify forgings, material type, and verify blueprint and dimensions. Read and understand entire part routing. Visually inspect, layout and prepare materials as required. Examine material visually for flaws, defects, and clean-up.
  • Set up equipment, install tools and fixtures.
  • Calculate chain and strap adjustments to ensure the safe lifting and transporting of parts.
  • Load material into machine utilizing overhead crane and secure to ensure safe machining on forgings that can exceed 100,000 lbs. using various lifting apparatus.
  • Maintain knowledge of processes through training while providing quality feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions.
  • Select, load, and verify existing program to ensure safe and productive machining- edit if necessary, notifying Supervisor or Group Leader of changes.
  • Actively participate in safety program to ensure the continued success of the program – maintain knowledge of process through training, perform scheduled observations, and provide quality feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions.
