After a 3-week training period and safety courses, the inside machinist will be assigned to a specific machine (Manual Lathes, Manual Mill, CNC Lathes or CNC Mill) and will be giving a specific project. The project could last a few hours or a few weeks depending on what item they are assigned to. They could be working with material that is 2 feet long or 10 feet long. Most of the material they will be working with will be stainless steel with a little bit of aluminum and copper. Onsite there will be a CNC programmer so the inside machinist will need to have knowledge of G&M codes but does not need to have the programming knowledge. Once they finish one project, they will move on to the next project.

Job Description Machinist - 2nd Shift (1:00PM - 9:30 PM) Job Summary The Manual Machinist is responsible for producing precision parts by setting up and operating conventional (manual) machines, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards, and maintaining equipment and documentation. Essential Job Functions Review work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, and specifications; interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T) to plan machining operations. Operate manual mills and lathes by turning handles, setting tool registers, offsets, and conditional switches; apply basic math, geometry, and trigonometry to calculate requirements. Set up machines by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, gears, and stops; indicate vices and tram heads. Load feed mechanisms by positioning stock securely. Verify machine settings and output by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces according to international standards. Monitor operations including drilling, grooving, turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing; take measurements, detect malfunctions, troubleshoot processes, adjust settings, and replace or sharpen worn tools as needed. Follow safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe work environment. Perform routine preventive maintenance, troubleshoot malfunctions, and coordinate repairs when necessary. Maintain clear communication between shifts by documenting actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs. Stay current with technical knowledge through training, publications, and continuous learning. As a Journeyman tool Maker, you will be responsible for operating milling machines and several other tools for maintaining dies and other tools in the manufacturing of PVC materials. You will adhere to all EHS standards and requirements. This position reports to the Tool Shop Supervisor Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following: * Operate manual milling machine, lathe, surface grinder, belt sander, & other bench working tools * Operate wire EDM, Ram EDM, CNC milling machine, Master Cam Cad software * Maintain extrusion dies and calibrators * Manufacture new die and calibrator systems * Maintain the housekeeping standards of the operation * Identify new ways to increase equipment utilization through continuous improvements and implementation of new technologies * Perform other duties as assigned or required to support the SimEx operation * Complete all training classes and required hours of the Apprenticeship Program. Qualifications * Strong organizational skills * Ability to work closely with other tool and die shop employees * Ability to perform detailed work on a continuous basis * Must be a self-starter and able to guide the work of others with limited supervision * 3-5 years of machining or tool making experience with fabrication and welding is preferred * Working knowledge of die assembly and construction, and blueprint reading * High School Education is required, and machine shop instruction or degree is preferred.
