We are currently seeking a skilled Machinist II to join our team in Tacoma, at Milgard Windows and Doors. A successful candidate will be adept at reading drawings, blueprints, and specifications, fabricating parts to required dimensions and tolerances, and processing raw materials into finished parts.

Responsibilities:
Read and understand drawings and blueprints; fabricate parts to .0002"". Surface grinders 6 in and 14 in grind material tolerance. Flat, square, and perpendicular to .0002".
Proficient at compound tapers, tool grinding for form cutting and sharpening.
Proficient using Bed mills and Knee mills to include since bars, since plates, magnetic chucks, and dividing head.
Operate manual vertical Bridgeport-style mills, lathes, and surface grinders to manufacture components and parts.
Strong mathematical knowledge. Proficient machine shop math. Geometry, Trigonometry, Cutting feeds, speeds, and vector point calculations needed to manufacture precise part to applied tolerance.
Assemble and disassemble complex tooling.
Check machines for correct alignment and setup.
Dress grinding wheels and tools as required.
Measure component and part dimensions with various measuring tools.
Calibrate and maintain measuring tools.
Perform maintenance and ensure proper machine function.
Work with minimal supervision.
Lead and instruct others in the proper use of machines in the tool shop.
Cooperate in a team atmosphere and maintain a safe, clean workstation.
Proficient with Machinery's Hand Book
The ability to work with a range of materials
Perform various types of bench work
Proficient with all support equipment including bandsaw, vertical and horizontal single point tool sharpener, twist drill sharpener, pedestal grinders, and hand polishing tools.
Qualifications:
Associate's degree in a technical field and a minimum of 10 years of experience in a machine manufacturing role, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Ability to read and understand engineering technical drawings and prints.
Advanced component and part measuring skills, including dial calipers, micrometers, indicators, bore gauges, gauge blocks, and GDT.
Advanced manual machining and CNC.
Strong mechanical machine systems understanding (bearings, gears, cams, slides, drives, tooling, pneumatic/hydraulic systems).
CNC programming skills via machine interface and external software.
SolidWork, SolidCam, AutoCad, and Vector Point programming inputs is a plus but not required.
Basic electrical and pneumatic machine control understanding.
Ability to interface with diverse backgrounds at various organizational levels.
Familiarity with TPM, preventative maintenance, and improvement techniques.
Strong communication skills and detail-oriented.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Microsoft-based products is a plus.
Knowledge of window production machinery is a plus but not required.

Machinists in this position participate in the design, fabrication and assembly of various production and research projects. Using a variety of precision machines (e.g., lathes, grinders, EDM, CNC and milling machines) to support aircraft engineering and production groups.
Position Responsibilities:
Perform bench work (e.g., drilling, honing, tapping, reaming) on production and experimental parts, as required

About this Role
As a prototyping machinist your focus will be with programming short run and multi-axis parts using NX CAM. Our shop focuses on high-precision, sometimes tricky, low-volume prototype quantity parts.
