Manual machinist job description

The Shop Machinist is responsible for the set-up and operations of a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments to engineering specifications.
Essential Job Functions
Maintains a safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to Company/Customer safety standards and practices and to legal regulations, alerting others regarding potential hazards or concern Performs all duties as assigned and adheres to TEAM's Core Values.Operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce precision parts and instruments.Reviews engineering specifications for a work order and performs calculations to determine the right tools, materials, and sequence of cutting and finishing operations.Measures, examines and tests completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines.Monitors the accuracy of machining work.
Job Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.Previous experience with CNC machines and manual lathes or relevant industry experience preferred.Ability to read a Calipers and Micrometers preferred.Ability to provide all hand tools as needed to complete daily tasks specified by the Shop Foreman.Travel Requirements: 0% - 25%
Work Conditions
Position is based out of a branch or site location.Field duties require indoor and outdoor work in a plant atmosphere Interaction with other crew employees, as well as supervisors and client personnel Working in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis

DEPARTMENT: Operations

Summary: The Manual Machinist III is responsible for working on compressor repair parts. Training will be held at our Stafford Service Center, and this role will eventually move to our Howden Houston Service Center (off 290).

JOB DUTIES:
Must be self-motivated and openminded to lean our machining and safety procedures Efficiently, carefully, and accurately sets-up and operates manual mills and lathes and has lengthy experience using a horizontal boring mill on a wide variety of diversified work Lays out work and produce quality parts Deciphers sketches, blueprints, and engineering details Provides assistance in establishing set up and layout methods, order of operations, and application of required parts and materials Carries a job through from raw materials to the finished products from drawings, sketches, samples or verbal instruction.Sharpens, reworks, resets and repairs cutting tools Inspects and checks parts being produced Maintains accurate production records and job history Keeps a clean and orderly work area Performs any other assigned duty as directed by management.Some local travel may be required

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
5+ years of machining experience Has an extensive knowledge of machine uses and manufacturing materials Has an advanced knowledge of shop mathematics Reciprocating Compressor experience a definite plus- but not required

• Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments
• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines
