Title: PIC Manufacturing Test Technician
Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Summary
Individual contributor technician position responsible for building and maintaining optical device characterization systems during the pilot production and manufacturing phases of photonic integrated circuits

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
Full tool maintenance responsibilities for multiple device characterization test stations, including station build, quality control using statistical process control, standard maintenance, and custom troubleshooting and repair Work with the engineering team to implement hardware enhancements Work with operations team to develop and transfer operational procedures Responsible for tool quality and availability and supporting production

Education / Experience
Two-year College AA degree / trade school certificates and 3 ~5 years direct manufacturing test experiences in photonics, or laser-optics, or optical network, or semiconductor industry;or B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or Applied Physics

Knowledge / Skills /Abilities
Experiences in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automated test equipment Strong work ethic and commitment to quality are essential Ability to work within a team environment is essential Working knowledge of statistical process control and station repeatability metrics / methodologies is preferred Working knowledge of standard passive and active optical device characterization is preferred

Under limited supervision conducts functional test and troubleshooting of Printed Wiring Assemblies, subassemblies and modules. Trouble shoots problems to component level. Utilizes general testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, AC/DC clamp on ammeters, HiPot testers and custom made test fixtures and test consoles. In the absence of established procedures, confers with others.
Essential Functions:

+ Test and troubleshoot complex Printed Wiring Assemblies, Subassemblies and Modules using Functional Test Procedures.

+ Test and troubleshoot equipment returned for repair.

+ Use Depot instructions and documentation to effect repair.

+ Identify non-conforming material and initiates Material Discrepancy Report to initiate disposition of non-re-workable items.

+ Program and verify programmable integrated circuits using approved procedures and Quality Assurance software.

+ Identify and initiate changes to test documents using a Quality Test Change Request.

+ Document rework required using rework tags and rework shop orders.

+ Document information for failure analysis using the Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System and Failure Analysis Reports.

+ Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

+ Must be able to work well with interdepartmental personnel.

+ Must be able to read and understand Engineering Orders, Quality procedures, Test procedures, operating instructions, drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and specifications.

+ Must have a working knowledge of computers.

+ A working knowledge of Microsoft Windows is a plus.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Requires developing job knowledge/skills. Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.

Performs sub-system assembly, optical alignment, functional test, equipment calibration, station setup and process development support. Assists in recommending changes in design, methods, and procedures to enhance product quality.

Role and responsibilities
Uses standardized tools and electronic equipment (i.e., torque wrenches, electric and pneumatic screwdrivers and ball drivers, lifting equipment, computers, oscilloscopes) to assemble/install/remove or perform testing and troubleshooting.
Assists in performing a variety of moderately complex technical service/support duties requiring specialized knowledge (i.e., sub-assembly, assembly, build, test, R&D, QA).
May utilize functional area databases to run reports and analyze/trend data;Assists in making recommendations to management in order to meet production needs.
May interface with engineers to support special tests and experiments with detailed instructions.
Documents and monitors safety or security violations critical to product quality or operations.
May use specialized test equipment such as leak testing, Hi - Pot and alignment instruments.
Troubleshoots failures with pressurized Gas, and Water sytems with Helium.

Education and experience
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
Requires a minimum of two (2) years related work experience.
Associate's Degree in technical or scientific field is highly desired.
Experience in using all electronic/pneumatic tools preferred.
Experience with Automated Testing Equipment, LabVIEW preferred.
Ability to read and interpret schematics/drawings.
Basic understanding of laser systems is preferred.
Ability to apply knowledge of Company policies and technical skills in support of multiple products, services and components.
Electrical/ electronic background.
Ability to troubleshoot, identify and correct problems in complex software-driven electronic systems (not circuit-board troubleshooting).
Familiarity with cleanroom protocol is preferred.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles preferred.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, basic algebra.
Good proficiency with a wide variety of tools and equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, voltage and current probes, multi-meters, chart recorders, Mensors, and Helium Sniffers).
