Mechanical assembly technician job description

Pay Range: $18-$25/hr depending on experience

Assembly

* Install a variety of electrical and process equipment and component devices such as: cable trays, brackets, pipe hangers, assembly mounts for HVAC units, pumps, stainless steel tubing, as well pipe stands and instrumentation.

* Measure, cut and bend buss bar for specific projects

* Insulate buildings and hang doors, install siding.

* Assemble, fit and mount sub-assemblies, components, and standard fixed assemblies in electrical control equipment.

* Follow quality process in checking procedures and equipment to verify mechanical integrity of units

* Position, align, and adjust pipe spools and other process assemblies including mounting and aligning pumps as well as installing tubing runs.

* Perform installations compliant with current regulations and customer specifications

* Responsible for assigned project completion, quality and delivery according to work schedule

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* High School Diploma plus one year experience working as a skilled laborer in heavy

industrial manufacturing operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience

* Ability to read and understand basic wiring schematics and layout diagrams as well as pipe assembly diagrams.

* Experience with various hand tools.

* Self-motivated and capable of working in a team environment with minimal supervision.

* Confident with the ability to work closely with other technicians and management while keeping production flowing and meeting due dates

* Demonstrated proficiency to achieve high quality results in mechanical assemblies, siding of buildings, installing cable trays and components, process pipe and pump mounting and alignment, and continual attention to quality and detail in the final assembly stage of production.

* Must be detail oriented and committed to producing quality work

* Must be able to get along with co-workers, supervisors, management, etc.

Education/Experience:

High School Diploma lus one year experience working as a skilled laborer in heavy industrial manufacturing operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Language Ability:

Ability to read, interpret, understand prints and basic electrical schematics/ drawings and specification charts. Must be able to read, and understand Travelers, production schedules and quality specifications. Must be able to write NCR's and comply with safety rules. Must be able to establish productive and effective communication ties and relationships with co-workers, supervisors, customers, and staff.

Math Ability:

Ability to compute basic math - buss bar, siding measurements, etc. Must be able to accurately follow schematics. Ability to understand and know company operation costs and production costs and production overrun costs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to analyze and understand project plan documents and prints and successfully resolve practical problems and they may occur. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

Must be able to use computer to log in time and job hours.

Safety:

Must comply with and follow all IE safety programs, policies and procedures. Must operate and perform job duties in a safe manner. Must be able to operate/work safely around machinery/moving equipment.

Position Description:

You will be responsible for the assembly and test of our new, state-of-the-art delivery system. You will have an opportunity to engage in a new build, from test fitting components to running life testing. You will work directly with the design engineering team to provide timely and insightful feedback. You will identify and document problems and work to trouble shoot them. You can look at a pile of parts, see the finished product and be motivated to see it through.

Qualifications:

• Strong mechanical assembly skills, including: proper fastener torquing, harness routing, fit checking, etc.
• Understanding of electronic and mechanical component applications and installation.
• Working Knowledge of hand tools and power tools: Drivers, wrenches, drill press, pneumatic riveter, etc.
• The ability to read a redlined mechanical drawing and make part modifications as needed.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills and a willingness to speak up.
• Receive incoming materials, component inspection, and inventory management.
• Able to work from high level design and assembly outline documents.

Education and Experience :

• Associate degree in Engineering or Technical Field or equivalent technical training
• Minimum 3 or more years of manufacturing-related experience as an assembler or technician
• Experience in an R&D prototype or early product design environment

AMF Bakery Systems is looking for a motivated and self-driven Mechanical Assembly Technician (MAT). MATs are responsible for the mechanical assembly of AMF machinery, assemblies, and equipment. MATs must be able to work with or without the aid of drawings and/or schematics. Fabrication and occasional rework of parts (cutting, grinding, drilling, tapping, welding, etc.) will be required to complete assemblies.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities ( Include, but not limited to):

• Interpret and follow verbal, written, and drawn instructions
• Assemble parts using a wide variety of fasteners and joining techniques
• Maintain work area cleanliness, functionality, and safe conditions
• Perform all assigned tasks in a limited amount of time, within acceptable quality limits, and while following safe work practices
• Report out on assembly progress and suggest countermeasures to maintain or recover schedules
• Identify and suggest productivity and/or quality improvements to Supervisors and/or Engineers

What Do You Need to Succeed (Included, but not limited to):

• Trade school
• Relevant mechanical assembly experience
• Ability to comprehend and execute verbal, written, and drawn instructions (incl. 2D and 3D engineering drawings and/or schematics)
• A solid mechanical aptitude that enables the use of sound judgment in the proper use of fasteners and assembly steps
• Comfortable working with a wide variety of hand, electrical, and pneumatic tools and the understanding of which tools are best to use in a given situation
• Ability to assess a problematic situation, diagnose a potential issue and repair the problem
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to safely operate a fork truck
• Ability to weld preferred but not required
