Mountain Alarm company history timeline

1954

The company changed hands in 1954, when the Stroups’ daughter and son-in-law, Jane and George Koorsen, took over and continued the tradition of diligence in all facets of the business, keeping up the reputation for service and honesty.

1963

Incidentally, it was during this period that those recognizable yellow trucks made their first appearance, in 1963.

1970

George and Jane’s son Randy Koorsen grew up in the business, helping however he could until in 1970 he officially began working for the company while attending college.

1971

Since 1971, NOREL Service Company, Inc. has provided sales, service, and installation of top-of-the-line fire and security systems.

1980

In 1980, the USS Navy chose NOREL Service as the sole source contractor to design and install a fire alarm system aboard the ship.

1984

Randy became president in 1984 and renamed the company Koorsen Protection Services, Inc.

1992

1992: High Rise Fire Protection Corp. was founded as a fire alarm service company providing a broad range of fire alarm products and services including card access systems, camera surveillance systems, test/inspections and service.

1995

1995: High Rise Fire Protection Corp. entered the construction market.

1997

Fire & Life Safety America was originally founded in 1997 as East Coast Fire Protection.

1997: A strategic partnership with Edwards Systems Technology, a leading global fire alarm manufacturer, is formed.

2002

2002: High Rise Fire Protection Corp. is recognized as an industry leader and outstanding performer in the construction market and is inducted into Edwards System Technology’s “One Million Dollar Club.”

2004

In 2004, the company became Koorsen Fire & Security to better reflect its wider focus.

2006

2006: High Rise Fire Protection Corp. is renamed to High Rise Fire and Security as the company expanded its presence in the security market.

2009

2009: Recognized as the Edwards Systems Technology Strategic Partner of the Year for the Northeast Region.

2012

2012: Recognized again as the Edwards Systems Technology Strategic Partner of the Year (Northeast Region) and awarded membership into the Edwards System Technology’s “Two Million Dollar Club.”

2013

2013: High Rise Fire begins to conduct training programs for clients and technicians in our new, state of the art training facility, built at our Corporate Center.

2014

2014: The New York State Society for Human Resource Management (NYS-SHRM) named High Rise Fire and Security as one of the “2014 Best Companies to Work for in New York State.”

2017

Since 2017, the Boston Business Journal has listed us as one of the largest Veteran-owned companies in Massachusetts.
