Responsibilities


The Interventional Special Procedures Technologist assists with providing safe, age appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. He/she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. He/she sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure.


Qualifications


Required Minimum Education:
Graduate of AMA approved School of Radiology Technology.

Required Minimum Licensure/Certification: Currently registered by the ARRT. BLS required. Code Description:
ARRT-R ARRT Radiography

Required Minimum Experience:
1-year minimum experience in Interventional Special Procedures setting in either IR and/or vascular hybrid setting.

Required Skills:
Able to function independently during procedures after appropriate orientation/competency on unit and as demonstrated by being place on call rotation. Competency in all aspects of interventional/vascular procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection. Required special/advanced procedure registry as outlined above. Must have an understanding of anatomy and pathology as well as how they affect the quality of a procedure. The individual must be able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language and display a positive attitude.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, the Senior Special Procedure Tech provides direct care pre, intra, and post for patients undergoing Heart and/or Vascular procedures to assist physicians and delivers quality patient/family centered care. The incumbent may be required to perform IV starts, prep patients, monitor hemodynamics, operate equipment, document procedures, vascular access site management, and provide patient/family education

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Monitor patients undergoing routine invasive, interventional procedures. Provide intra-procedural technical support and quality patient/family centered care.
  • May be required to perform and record hemodynamic/physiologic wave forms and calculations.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, patients, families, and all ancillary departments while consistently demonstrating the Beaumont Standards.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on technical equipment. Perform department skills validations.
  • Maintain radiation safety standards for staff and patients in compliance with the Beaumont Radiation Safety Department.
  • Required to take On Call per department schedule.
  • May be required to provide training to less experienced techs.
  • IR Special Procedure Techs must be able to 1st assist physicians using sterile technique, and fully participate in image post processing, cross modality imaging (CT, U/S), 3D imaging, vascular, and cerebral cases if performed at the site.
  • Cath Lab Special Procedure Techs, if performed at the site, must be able to utilize IVUS, FFR, OCT, ICE, EKOS, Impella, Cardiac, peripheral, and Carotid interventions.
  • EP Lab Special Procedure Techs, if performed at the site, must be able to utilize ICE, participate in device Implants, and circulate in all other EP cases. As well as 3D mapping, advanced EP procedures, and laser lead extractions.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Training:

  • Interventional Radiology requires completion of an accredited radiography program (JRCERT).
  • Cath Lab/EP Lab requires employee to be a graduate of Cardiovascular Technologist program, Associate degree in cardiovascular technology/basic science, Paramedic license, Exercise Physiologist, or equivalent training and/or education.

Work Experience:

  • Employee must have more than 3 + years of Interventional experience.
  • Employee must be an expert and able to train others in the clinical skills listed within below grid per each individual department and/or site scope.
  • If the department is a combination of specialties, employee must be an expert in all areas that are performed.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

  • IR requires BLS certification and active RT status upon hire, and an RT-CV or VI registration.
  • Cath Lab requires BLS and ACLS upon hire, Registered RCES/RCIS/RT certification, and IABP certification
  • EP Lab requires BLS and ACLS upon hire. Registered RCIS/RCES/RT.

Other Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills, math skills, exceptional communication skills, and outstanding customer service skills.
  • Cath Lab must be on site within 30 min. IR Call response time may vary by facility.
