The City of Independence is seeking a Part-Time Firefighter to join the City's Fire Department.
Suppression of Fire.
Prevention of Fire.

Education:
Any combination of education and experience with a minimum of high school graduation or G.E.D. supplemented by required firefighting and emergency medical paramedic training as well as some prior experience in the emergency services field.
Certifications:
Valid State of Ohio-EMT Paramedic Certification
Valid State of OhioFirefighter I & Firefighter II Certification
Valid State of Ohio driver's license with a good driving record, is required. Applicants must not have any major violations and no more than 6 points on their license.
Valid active Physical Agility Test Certification from either Cuyahoga Community College (Tri C) or Auburn Career Center with a finishing time of 5:00 minutes or less.
Additional:
Must be a citizen of the United States of America
Preference will be given to candidates who live within (15) radius of the Independence Fire Station due to the importance of immediate need for response in an emergency.
Must be of good moral character; Emotional stability, maturity and sound judgment are also required.

Physical Requirements:
Must have vision of not less than 20/30 Binocular, either uncorrected or corrected with glasses and/or contact lenses. Uncorrected vision of at least 20/100 Binocular wearers of glasses and/or hard contact lenses. (No uncorrected standard applies to successful long-term soft contact wearers).
Must possess the strength and physical ability to successfully perform the essential job functions of a Firefighter/Paramedic, and be free of medical conditions that would preclude one from successfully performing said functions or would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of oneself or others
Must pass a thorough screening which may include any and/or all the following: physical agility test, background investigation, pre-employment physical, drug screen and/or polygraph examination. Any final questions about a candidate's physical condition, capacity, vision, etc. will be resolved prior to appointment based on a recommendation provided by a doctor selected by the City of Independence.
