Job Description

Vulcan Materials, is the nation's leading producer of construction aggregates like asphalt, ready-mix, concrete, etc. They are headquartered in Birmingham, but have approximately 400-500 locations around the country consisting of both business offices as well as quarrys. *Think big, massive holes in the ground where they take rocks and turn it into a construction material.*
This candidate will be joining a large, decentralized team responsible for the design and implementation of the infrastructure at their locations -- mainly within a geographic area, but certainly can and will expand nationally. Typically, each technician is responsible for all of the locations within a couple of states, but provide backup support for the rest of the country. The internal network engineer team is responsible for everything to the firewall, but then this team does all of the layer 2 and 3 infrastructure -- managed switches, VLANs, wireless, etc.
This person must be interested and able to travel (will be provided a company vehicle, and all airline travel is expensed) and also "get dirty." These quarries are outside and in construction zones in all of the weather elements, so hard hats, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, etc, will be needed. The job description is below.

Technology Installation. Plant and administrative network design and implementation including Cellular, Managed Network Switches, Fiber optic, Fiber optic terminations, Vlans, Wireless Point to point, Structured Wiring and WiFi all optimized for Plant automation systems along with normal business use.
Provide Support. Provides support for existing area IT technology in the office and plant environments as needed to support the business.
Train. Provides onsite technical knowledge transfer to end-users and other support personnel as needed to support the business. Evaluates training needs, training materials available and recommends training alternatives as approved by the Enterprise Manager. Assists in the coordination, planning, and scheduling of area training programs as approved by the Enterprise Manager. Provides knowledge transfer to other field support technicians to support enterprise technology project rollouts.
Record Information. Recording of support calls that are directly received into the centralized help desk ticket tracking system.
Coordinate Resources. Serves as project manager as well as leads implementation resource for enterprise technology upgrades and installations. Coordination with onsite internal and external technical resources as needed to meet support requirements.
Troubleshoot. Assists in the troubleshooting of Telecom WAN chronic sites which includes coordination of the managed technical service provider. Operation of technical tools to collect and document system information that can provide troubleshooting data to analyze and solve problems.
Champion Continuous Improvement. Stay abreast of professional and technical developments in order to maintain and improve the skills and knowledge needed for superior job performance and to help improve operational efficiency.

AP&T is an employee & investor-owned utility looking for a Telecommunications Network Field Engineer at our Ketchikan, Alaska location . This is a hands-on role that will work in an office setting as well as remote mountaintop sites; will be trained and certified in tower rescue; remote monitor network and respond to network or field work as needed; able to safely lift to 75lbs. Applicant must be willing to spend an estimated 10% of time traveling with overnight stays; and remotely respond to after-hour emergency alarms.

Candidate Qualifications Required

• Working knowledge of MS Office, IP data networks, etc.
• Experience with IP data transport and Network troubleshooting
• Strong technical background with basic knowledge of DC and AC wiring
• Experience configuring network equipment
• Proficient with Microsoft Visio Software or similar drawing program
• Willingness to take extended trips in the field with overnight stays on remote mountain top sites (10%)
• Ability to work in all weather conditions for extended time periods; proven ability to cope with Alaska's harsh weather & challenging environment
• Ability to develop and maintain clear and accurate documentation
• Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by AP&T
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and background check

Additional Skills & Experience Desired

GDIT has an opportunity for a Field Network Engineer at Ft. Wainwright, AK. This position requires someone with a current and active Secret clearance and able to obtain a TS/SCI.

**Responsibilities**

+ Conduct Site Survey to prepare for network upgrades and to produce distinctive work packages for implementation actions.

+ Site survey undertakings to provide engineering and supporting documentation.

+ Testing of network hardware at different locations throughout USAPAC area of responsibility.

+ Prepare floor space diagrams, rack equipment diagrams, connectivity tables, and installation checklists.

+ Plan, deploy, install, test, troubleshoot and repair standard network infrastructure systems.

+ Installation and/or removal of equipment into a rack or cabinet, cable ladder and patch panels.

+ Installation of network devices and the interface cables to facilitate required interconnectivity.

+ Engineer new designs to resolve cabinet management and network device issues.

+ Troubleshoot and repair network connectivity on numerous devices, to include routers and switches in a telecommunications room.

+ Interconnection of various networking devices via Fiber and CAT6 cabling.

+ Organizing Network rooms and working with customer to upgrade network equipment throughout USAPAC area of responsibility.

+ Maintains smooth operation of local area, worldwide, and virtual private networks (VPN).

+ Plans, evaluates, designs, and coordinates installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network.

+ Test source to destination.

+ Identify and resolve all issues.

+ Repair or Replace cables if they are damaged, have signs of wear and tear, fails testing, or does not meet current standard.

+ Replace damaged faceplates and outlets on the user side.

+ Replace faulty circuit breakers.

+ Cable management, verify all labels and update/generate documentation.

+ Maintains technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switchers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. May propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.

+ Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.

+ Provides regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems. May coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment. May design network or portion of network that includes selection and recommendation of hardware and software packages.

+ Provide embedded support at customer location.

+ Installs and maintains network facilities, including hardware, software, and system data for small networks.

+ Performs data or voice network configurations and configuration changes of various voice or data equipment.

+ Interpret design plans provided by the customer.

+ Provide escort to vendors or personnel to TRs or other Secure Areas.

+ Candidate is required to perform other additional duties in support the Contract.

**Qualifications:**

+ Must have a current and active Secret clearance and be able to TS/SCI Clearance

+ Must be IAT level II compliant with DoD 8570.1

+ Knowledgeable utilizing the Microsoft applications such as, Visio, Word, and Excel.

+ Experience with Telecommunication Room Remediation, Network Migration, LCR Life Cycle Replacement, and Help Desk Remedy

+ Must be able obtain Level 4 Badge.

+ Candidate is required to maintain IT Certification up-to-date.
