Non-destructive testing technician job description

* Ensures the functional and acceptable status of the non-destructive test equipment in accordance with the appropriate company process.

* Determines the acceptance of parts and components for surface condition in preparation for the non-destructive test process.

* Performs the specific non-destructive test process as identified in the shop order work instruction.
* Processes the part(s) in accordance with the appropriate company process.
* Inspects and interprets the test results.
* Marks all unacceptable discontinuities for location and dimension.
* Documents the completion and test results of non-destructive test process.
* Ensures parts are cleaned following completion of NDT process and in acceptable condition for further processing.
* Performs equipment and material maintenance checks in accordance with the appropriate company process.
* Maintains records of all maintenance performed on the non-destructive test equipment and materials.
* Liaisons with engineering, inspection and other personnel as required to assist in researching and solving non-destructive test process problems.
* Maintains personal qualifications as stated in the appropriate company process.
* Participates in continuous improvement of cell processes.
* Cross trains in other complementary skills and seeks endorsements for those skills as needed to support production requirements.
* Moves between production assignments that utilize multiple skills endorsements as needed to support production requirements.
* Participates in the cross training of other technicians as needed to support production requirements.
* Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
* Carries out other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
* Knowledgeable in and understanding of inherent and non-inherent discontinuities found in materials.
* Knowledgeable in the requirements and methods of handling materials processed at Standard Aero.
* Knowledgeable in the Workplace Health & Safety requirements.
* Ability to attain the internal non-destructive test process approval.
* Proficient in technical writing.
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (unassisted) for approximately 25% of the average work day.
* Regularly required to sit and stand for prolonged periods.
* Working knowledge of production management computer system and other related internal control systems.
* Level II certification required
*Must be an U.S. Citizen

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for park wide quality control inspections and audits in one or more of the following areas: Dimensional conformity, fiberglass laminate construction (FRP)/carbon fiber composites, material specification conformity, mechanical and structural non-destructive testing (NDT), process specification conformity, receiving, and welding. Provides neat, timely, and accurate inspection reports; facilitates problem resolution; provides input to Engineering and/or Management in areas of expertise during problem resolution or project planning stage(s). Performs all duties in accordance with Universal Orlando and Technical Services Engineering /Quality Control Departments policies and procedures.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Inspection of Ride and Show related elements including ride tracks, ride vehicles and all ride related components to assure product quality, accuracy, quality of workmanship, conformity to material specifications and welding procedure specifications (WPS) in accordance with the applicable codes and UO QC NDT procedures.

+ This includes both final products and in-process items. Also includes inspection of welding setups, excavations of defects, preparation and final welding using visual, magnetic particle, and liquid penetrant methods; inspection of received parts and components for dimensional accuracy; material conformity to specifications; and inspection of fiberglass/carbon fiber composite assemblies, both in-process and for final acceptance. Non-destructive testing (NDT MT/ PT/ VT inspection methods) of structural and mechanical ride and facility equipment.

+ Provides detailed/ accurate written reports of all inspections performed in a timely manner.

+ Communicates clear and accurate information as needed to UO engineering.

+ Researches at Document Control, with Vendors, and Internet Sites for information and data relevant to inspection of goods under scrutiny.

+ Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

+ High school degree or GED is required. Technical school is preferred.

+ Associate's degree (AA) or (AS) in quality or related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

+ Required - 1-3 years: experience in a technical field.

+ Preferred - 1 Year: Experience with major Ride and Show attractions and performing inspections of structural (including bolting), mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment elements essential to those attractions.

+ Preferred 1 Year: Experience or can show experience in or provide documented proof in performing NDT Inspection of equipment using Visual Inspection (VT), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT) and Liquid Penetrant Inspections (PT).

+ Preferred -1 Year: Experience working with machine and weld shop fabrication and Q/C inspection for compliance with mechanical drawings - or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

+ Level II certification in Magnetic Particle Test (MT) in accordance with American Society for Non- Destructive Testing (ASNT) - required; Level II certification in Liquid Penetrant Inspection (PT) in accordance with American Society for Non- Destructive Testing (ASNT) - required; - UO in-house Certified Composite Inspector Level II - required; - National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials Level 1 (NAARSO) - required in the first year.

+ Industrial rope access certification - preferred.

The **Boeing Defense, Space & Security** (BDS) is seeking an Experienced Non-Destructive Test Technician (Phantom Works) to join the Operations & Quality group located in **Mesa, AZ** .
**Position Responsibilities:**

+ Advises on advanced technology in non-destructive instrumentation and inspection principles, processes and techniques

+ Guides implementation of advanced inspection or test techniques

+ Develops innovative test processes and equipment

+ Consults suppliers and customers to resolve technical issues involving tests, processes and equipment

+ Develops principles and methods for analyzing test, inspection or statistical data

+ Consults on corrective action to resolve process or product anomalies

+ Participates on enterprise and industry teams to influence the standardization and regulation of training and certification requirements

**Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):**

+ NDT/NDI certifications as a level 3 Technician per NAS 410 in Ultrasonic, X-ray, Dye Penetrant, Eddy Current, or Magnetic Particle.

**Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):**

+ Experience with Continuous Improvement, Lean and Employee Involvement

+ NAS 410 NDT Level 3 with ASNT Qualifications in Ultrasonic (UT) or Radiography (RT)

+ Active Security Clearance

**Typical Education & Experience:**

AA degree in related discipline and typically 3 or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
