Northeastern Services Lakeside history

Covers Columbus’s first landing in the Caribbean to the Haitian declaration of independence in 1804 and includes the Atlantic trade, piracy, slavery and other forms of labor, cultural and ecological exchange, and independence and emancipation.

Northeastern University was established in 1898.

The first World Series was held on this field in 1903 between the then-American Nationals and the Pittsburgh Nationals, now the Pirates.

The Y decided to relocate and built what is now Cullinane Hall in 1909 as an automobile school.

It was renamed the Huntington School for Boys in 1913.

In an effort to expand and unify the area, Northeastern purchased the old ballpark property in 1929.

“Using what was to become the campus signature white brick, [the firm] presented a building neoclassical in symmetry and proportions,” reads “Northeastern History,” “Opened in 1938, Richards Hall was the first building to appear on the front quadrangle.”

Since it began to operate (January 1, 1945), the Northeastern Conference has made continued progress.

However, by 1960, the building was falling apart and was purchased by the Boston Redevelopment Authority, which sold the building to Northeastern a week later.

The Ephesus church, the largest, soon grew to 1600 members, and with an expanded program of evangelism, composed of health lectures and Sunday night meetings, to which were invited diplomats of several African and Asian countries, the membership grew to 2,200 in 1962.
