Packing supervisor job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Supervising hourly associates and overseeing daily production schedule on a high volume production line.
* Organizing, assigning, instructing and directing the daily tasks of production employees and ensuring those tasks are completed efficiently and with great attention to quality.
* Ensuring that production areas are properly staged, inventory is stocked, and notifies the proper department when stock reaches designated minimum levels.
* Maintaining and enforcing department standards including safety and regulations, supporting continuous improvement, teaching productivity techniques and monitoring progress.
* Provide performance management to line associates (performance and reviews, discipline, training, recommendations, etc.).
* Responsible for the cleanliness and orderliness of work areas to a 6S standard.
* Responsible for the enforcement of company safety policies and compliance with OSHA/DOSH standards and regulations.

PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR Requirements:

* BS/BA in a technical or manufacturing related field preferred.
* Experience supervising direct reports.
* High attention to detail, quality control, and continuous improvement.
* Prior leadership training, mentoring, or coaching training is a plus.
* Strong communications and leadership skills.

General Overview: Supervises day to day packing operations related to production, scheduling and quality while directing and leading the large pack operations staff.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Responsible for supervising, training, and coaching employees; issues corrective actions as needed
• Communicates, trains, adheres to, and enforces safety, quality, production/distribution standards, practices, and procedures.
• Directs and leads workflow in the packing of product to meet safety, quality, demand, and efficiency goals.
• Develops and maintains a prioritization schedule to determine work priorities throughout the department to meet shipping goals.
• Responsible for adhering to all customer compliance requirements (price ticketing and UCC128 label placement).
• Develops strategies to optimize packing to maximize throughput.
• Promotes a teamwork environment and interacts as needed with all shifts.
• Reviews and ensures procedures and policies are communicated, trained, and followed.
• Communicates with leads, production employees, and management staff daily.
• Provides a safe and clean work environment for all production workers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Education Required:

• High school diploma and a minimum of three years supervisory experience; college degree preferred.
• Extensive understanding of product flow related to warehousing and shipping.
• Experience working with customer compliance teams in the sporting goods industry a plus.
• Ability to navigate employee issues while maintaining a positive work environment.
• Ability to adapt and change as business needs change daily.
• Ability to make decisions as it relates to managing workflow, shifting workers between departments, and dealing with shortage of material.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must demonstrate reliability and dependability as it relates to responsibilities with the buildings, equipment, vehicles, and materials.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Knowledge of JD Edwards preferred
• Knowledge of ADP timekeeping system preferred

Ability to read and interpret documents such as contracts, ability to write advertising, reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Must have proven exceptional written presentation and verbal communication skills.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic math and algebra.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
