Position Summary:
The paving operator is to be responsible for the safe and proper operation of assigned equipment including but not limited to daily inspection and light maintenance.

Responsibilities:
Comply with (and actively promote) all Safety policies and procedures including reporting all accidents, incidents and near misses to ensure adherence to our Number One Core Value – Safety, first in everything we do. Must be on site at scheduled start time and be present for the daily huddle and weekly Tool Box Talks. Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all Middlesex safety policies and procedures. Must be able to identify potential hazards and assist in maintaining a safe work environment. Maintain good health status and flexibility to bend, push, pull, stoop and/or twist. Able to climb ladders maintaining a 3 point contact. Maintain a flexible work schedule to include day/night shift work with extended hours when necessary. Able to understand and follow verbal instructions. Assist with layout of project and marking of roadway structures. Establish and maintain positive relationship with all Team Members and Supervisor. Help to maintain a clean and orderly job site. Be sure assigned equipment is properly maintained and kept clean at all times. Assist in daily project inspection prior to departing, to ensure work is complete with the highest quality and all cleanup is complete.



Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of paving operator experience. OSHA 10.

The Position:

We're looking for an Experienced Asphalt Paving Operator responsible for operating several types of paving equipment in a safe and efficient manner. This equipment may include, but is not limited to, asphalt pavers.

The Candidate:

  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
  • A CDL is desired but not necessary.

  • Be able to tolerate and work in variable weather conditions, and work in dirty and dusty environments.

  • Minimum of two to three years of previous work experience in asphalt paving operation.

WRS has immediate openings for experienced and competent Asphalt Pavers. Our paving crews work most of the year, and typically get over 2,000 hours annually! Pavers work on various job sites (inside and outside the refineries) and operate a variety of equipment including the screed, roller, and top-side.

Your Responsibilities


  • Driving, operating, starting, stopping, and controlling the actions of the machine or equipment.
    • Operate valves to regulate flow-rate of material.
    • Observe distribution of material to ensure uniform distribution.
    • Know and perform functions to set angle, depth, and slope of screed.
    • Understand and verify depth specs of compacted asphalt.
  • Communicate with other operators, ground crew, and trucks to ensure proper movement of all equipment, personnel, and trucks; both during and prior to the job starting.
  • Understand factors for placing and finishing asphalt, including speed, starting/stopping, patterns, compaction, and proper rolling techniques.
  • Understand mix temperatures, mat temperature, weather patterns, ground saturation, other related factors, and adjust process as needed.
  • Understand elevations, slope, and water flow.
  • Perform set-up work on the equipment and the job site prior to the operation of the machine.
    • Grease, oil, and perform minor repairs on equipment.
  • Make sound judgments and decisions, change tasks often, be responsible for various duties, and complete precise work.
  • Because equipment operators may perform any combination of duties, by transferring from one task to another where demands require, they must be able and willing to climb down from the machine and help on the ground.
  • Maintain and protect all WRS property. Ensure all equipment is returned in the same condition it was lent out in.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with Federal, State, WRS, and Client Health & Safety standards.
  • Perform other assigned tasks and support WRS goals and objectives.



Your Experience & Qualifications


  • Prior experience in asphalt paving, 6 years minimum.
  • Ability and knowledge to safely operate various kinds of paving equipment.
  • Ability to have/earn the respect of fellow employees, leadership, ownership, and customers.
  • Strong work ethic and desire to learn.
  • Willingness to work long hours, including weekends, and for weeks on end during the busy season.
