A Brief Overview
Responsible for flying helicopter missions requested by Avera. The pilot is directly responsible for all operations pertaining to the safe and efficient conduct of the flight from initial request until termination of the flight. Must have a good working knowledge of the company Operations Manual, Federal Aviation Regulations, Operations Specifications, Aircraft Flight Manual and any other requirements pertinent to specific flights. Must demonstrate interdisciplinary skills when working with team members. Must have effective critical thinking skills to problem solve and immediately respond to changing environments. May be required to work at all Avera Careflight bases/locations if the need arises.
What you will do
Obtains weather briefing and prepares flight plan(s) considering such factors as altitude to be flown, terrain and/or obstacles, weather, fuel load and airport facilities.
Ensures that all flight operations are conducted safely and in compliance with all FAR'S, Operations Specifications, and Avera's policies/procedures.
Ensures that all Check List items are complied with according to the AFM.
Consults with Leader of Operations in solving operational problems and procedures.
Responsible and accountable for the ongoing operations of the flight program in compliance with established safety/quality standards, goals and objectives.
Coordinates with the Leader of Maintenance the timely correction of mechanical irregularities and discrepancies and scheduled maintenance.
Responds to flight requests within the guidelines of the flight program and assists crew with loading and unloading.
Assists with monthly program meetings and training.
Maintains a good working knowledge of the company Operations Manual, Federal Aviation Regulations, Operations Specifications, Aircraft Flight Manual, and any other requirements pertinent to specific flights and operations conducted by Careflight.
All Careflight personnel are responsible for maintaining physical health and proper weight, not to exceed 240 pounds.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
Commercial Pilot - Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Required to have and maintain a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Certificate and instrument rating Upon Hire or
Airline Transport Pilot License - Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate valid for Rotorcraft Category, Helicopter Class Upon Hire and
FAA Medical Class - Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Current First or Second Class FAA Medical Certificate Upon Hire
1500 total flight hours 1200 hours must be in helicopters. 1000 hours must be Pilot in Command rotorcraft hours.
100 unaided night hours or 50 hours unaided, with 100 aided night hours 500 hours of turbine time.
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
An Airline Transport Pilot rating
