Hughes has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Level - Digital Design Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Germantown, MD.

At Hughes we are developing some of the largest and most powerful satellite and terrestrial IP-based communications systems in the world. Our ground segment group in Germantown, Maryland has the need for hardware engineering professionals to help us achieve our vision of providing broadband connectivity everywhere. As a Principal Hardware Engineer, your role is to bring best-in-class solutions to our satellite communications products and high-throughput ground network systems.Responsibilities:

Design and develop innovative hardware solutions for satellite and terrestrial IP-based communications systems in the areas of circuit board, digital communications, and packaging design Participate in a multi-functional engineering team environment to develop and integrate hardware, software, and network technology for products and systems Analyze customer needs and establish product objectives, specifications, and technical solutions to ensure products satisfy customer requirements and deliverables Contribute to all aspects of the product life cycle (concept, development, integration, qualification, acceptance, delivery, and maintenance) Work effectively across multiple corporate functions including business groups, Engineering, manufacturing, and field support
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineering or related technical field8+ years of experience5+ years of experience in any of the following: Digital/Analog circuit design, Digital Signal Processing, or Communications Theory
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineering or related technical field Knowledge of System Integrity & Power Integrity analysis Knowledge of Micro-controller coding Knowledge in Electronics PackagingExperience leading others

7.Perform Root Cause Analysis on returned product from customer What You Need for this Position-Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field of studies is required. Graduate degree desirable.
- Experience designing ADC (SAR, Sigma Delta, Pipeline) and DAC (R2R, current steering, charge scaling)
- Experience designing analog circuits such as Bandgap, Oscillators, Opamps, Switched Capacitor Circuits, Power Management (Buck, Boost, LDO, Charge Pump)
- Experience with Tanner Tools, Cadence, Spectre, Calibre, AMS, Verilog-A, Analog Layout Tools, Mentor PADS, Altium

A Day in the Life


As a Principal Hardware Engineer, you will develop verification environments, tools, capabilities, and methodologies that increase the productivity and effectiveness of ASIC, hardware, and firmware design teams. You will work closely with your engineering partners to identify, select, and integrate new tools / methodologies in the verification environment. This may include working with tool vendors and performing software evaluations.

Responsibilities include the following and other duties may be assigned:

• Collaborate with HW/FW stakeholders to define test environment requirements, design hardware and software architecture, integrate custom hardware and off-the-shelf equipment to stand-up test environment, and create / execute method validation tests.
• On-going collaboration to provide additional capabilities / updates as hardware and firmware changes throughout development life cycle.
• Work with ASIC designers to implement design for test methodologies that enable HW / FW verification.
• Utilize hardware / firmware skills and product knowledge to collaborate with FW verification engineers in evaluation of verification test failures to identify root-cause and corrective action.
• Provide guidance to technicians and less experienced engineers.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• Requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

• Strong hardware skills (Analog and Digital circuit functionality and debug, able to read / interpret circuit schematics)
• Knowledge and experience with embedded system
• Strong lab skills (using logic analyzers/oscilloscopes/arbitrary waveform generators, etc.)
• Strong understanding of JTAG, SPI, I2C hardware interfaces
• Intermediate SystemVerilog (RTL design)
• Intermediate C/C++ programming
• Understands BTLE and other RF interfaces
• Strong debug and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with others to achieve common objectives
• Experience in circuit design and simulation
• Experience in scripting like Perl, Python, CMake, Makefiles used to package tool flows
• Experience in Hardware Assisted Verification using HW emulation, RTL acceleration.
