Principal network engineer job description

Our client, a global SaaS Security organization, has an immediate need for a Principal Network Engineer to join its Reston, VA based operations. This is a direct-hire position. Candidates must be willing to go into office (or to datacenter) +/- 60% of the week.
Responsibilities


Deploy, automate manage various technologies Assist in the operational and deployment of all network infrastructure combining the tasks of a software engineer with a network engineering skill set to deliver key projects and networking solutions across the globe Assist in operational aspects of the team's daily workload Assist in ongoing datacenter migrations Assist in new network deployments across all technologies when needed Be a part of continuous improvements efforts to help develop SOT and integrate with CMDB Maintain existing tool sets and develop automation strategy to maintain cohesive set from our SOT Develop network automation and orchestration to scale business solutions Build and deploy the network through a DevNetOps pipeline Act as an escalation point for network team Represent network team for local office needs


Requirements


Passion for networking, with experience in orchestrated Configuration Management Infrastructure-as-Code Technical acumen in Ansible, Python, Terraform, Jenkins Experience with networking tools that do the following: Network telemetry, monitoring, and logging Network performance engineering IP Address Management Network Management Competent in the use of Cisco ISE building NAC frameworks for the entire organization

Bloomberg's Network Engineering team architects, designs, builds, and automates the global network which supports Bloomberg's products and services. Our network connects multiple large-scale Data Centers and over a hundred edge sites including Internet exchange points that connect Bloomberg to our hundreds of thousands of clients around the world and over 1,500 global exchanges and trading venues.

Senior Engineers on our team also contributes to industry standards by collaborating with competing networking players within the industry by developing solutions to challenges facing our area.

We'll trust you to:

Use your expertise to Architect, Design and Implement network technologies at scale. You'll develop design patterns and select appropriate technologies, prove solutions in lab environments, and work on building network automation. You'll work with our Network Operations team to plan and manage our capacity, provide full visibility into the health of the network, and respond and resolve critical production network incidents.

Be a leader in defining network technology throughout our business and the industry. Bring your deep knowledge of our problem space and help articulate where we need networking technology to evolve to stay ahead of our growing needs. Collaborate with Engineering groups within Bloomberg using our network to make the best possible use of our technology capabilities.

You need to have:

7+ years of extensive experience of architecture, designing and implementing enterprise/service provider networks at scale using industry standard networking protocols Deep knowledge and understanding of L2/L3 networking protocols. Experience with provisioning and managing large scale networks using network automation Ability to take ownership and responsibility of critical issues and conclude them to resolution BA/BS or higher in Computer Science, or a related technical field
We'd love to see:


Hands on experience with Ansible Experience managing and automating network devices such as Arista, Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto, Ciena, F5. An interest in open source and network automation frameworks and tools such as Ansible Software development experience in high-level languages such as Python Hands-on experience with dis-aggregation model of white box with NOS Eagerness to learn new technologies and mentor others

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and typically 14+ years of experience, Master's Degree or equivalent education and typically 12+ years of experience. Eight years of experience in application program development. Work experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred.
•Requires in depth knowledge of the systems development life cycle, client area's functions and systems, and systems application program development technological alternatives.
•Demonstrated ability to function as a principle investigator, generating original technical ideas and software development strategies. Demonstrated creative 'out of the box' thinking to solve difficult technical problems and champion new technologies to achieve project goals.
•Excellent written and oral English communication skills, as demonstrated by presenting at leading scientific or technical conferences.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Design experience for large global scale enterprise WAN, LAN, WLAN, firewalls, and cloud communications for 10,000+ users
• Defines, plans and designs innovative enterprise network infrastructure solutions
• Data center infrastructure designs
• Requires experience with highly complex routing scenarios and redundancy
• Possess a working understanding of cloud designs and architectures; prefer AWS and Azure
• Financial understanding of data carrier services
• Effectively organize and present project objectives and progress
