Job/Position Description:
The Process Safety Engineer is a senior appointment to provide technical support for capital projects to ensure safety, operational and technical integrity in all process aspects of the chemical process used to make lithium products from the engineering phase through to plant construction and commissioning. The Process Safety Engineer will manage internal and external Stakeholders to fulfil the role. The Process Safety Engineer will work alongside peers within a diverse Engineering team and will report to the Engineering Manager.

This role is critical to the success of the project as the position holder is responsible for guiding the engineering contractors and procurement choices in conjunction with the EPCI (Engineering and Procurement Construction Contractor) and is a key member within the overall project delivery team.
The role location will be in Houston, TX but will be expected to support project execution as needed at various locations in the US.
Responsibilities
Sufficient experience with hazard identification, risk analyses and assessment methodologies to plan and lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) on existing and new processes.Working knowledge of industry codes, standards and practices relevant to process design and safety (e.g. ASME, API, NFPA, ANSI, etc.) and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP) Understanding and experiences with risk scenario development techniques, including assignment of probabilities and consequences Working experience in the following areas:Design, commissioning, start-up of a chemical or petrochemical facility,Utilization of consequence modelling tools (e.g. DNV PHAST),Controls and Protective System Design concepts and impact in risk assessments, and Design and review of fire protection systems and expertise for firefighting strategies/tactics.Provide expert technical support to help drive site improvements, including:Review of key safety systems and recommending corrective actions,Support effective identification, assessment, and prioritization of risks and the tracking and completion of risk reduction activities in a timely manner, and Provide technical support (and leadership if called upon) in incident investigations Conduct process safety reviews, process safety-related studies / analyses, and support the development of related control measures for projects.Provide advice and recommendations on the applicability and interpretation of both internal and external safety guidelines and standards.Support operating site's Risk Management Plans and provide technical support to safety and regulatory audits.Provide oversight for the Project Management of Change (MOC) Process.Manage the site PHA schedule and recommendation implementation plan.Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time to engineering contractor offices and visit suppliers as needed to support project activities.Cooperation and coordinating the activities with other engineering disciplines (process, civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation) to provide solutions to project risks and concerns as they arise.In association with process safety related issues, advise and assist the Albemarle plant start-up leader to:Plan/schedule the commissioning and start-up,Develop the commissioning procedures of the systems and equipment,Develop the start-up, operating, and shut down procedures, and Document that the equipment and processes perform to the design and/or vendor performance guarantees.Identify project deficiencies for Project team correction, participating in de-bottlenecking studies for future train definition, construction, and commissioning.Lead and organize Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), and monitor and prioritize PSSR identified items addressed on time.
