ABOUT THE POSITION
Columbia Global Manufacturing brings product ideas to reality in order to connect active people with their passions. We cover everything from raw materials development, product development, fit engineering, quality, sourcing and then the Liaison Offices that manage the product manufacturing.
As the Footwear Product Engineer/ Technical Lead, you will direct and manage footwear technology and innovation projects within Footwear Engineering and manufacturing groups. You will report to Director of Footwear Engineering, and support Director of Development, Director of Sourcing, Development Project Managers, Product Developers, VP Footwear Manufacturing, VP of Footwear and all relevant departments within Columbia Sportswear Company including Innovation Teams to ensure that footwear technologies and innovations are briefed, created, managed, developed and commercialized in accordance with product and merchandising specifications, commercialization timelines, and in a manner consistent with Columbia's launch calendars. In addition, you will play a key communications role between CSC Portland headquarters, branch offices, key suppliers and overseas factories. There is an emphasis placed on clearly communicating technology requirements, pricing, and timelines to ensure technology and product initiatives are developed on time.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Work closely in cross functional basis with VPs of Manufacturing and Merchandising, Director of Footwear Engineering, Director of Footwear Development and Product Integrity and other product creation and design personnel within Footwear on identifying and managing new technologies.Provide technical engineering solutions that drive lower cost (labor in particular), by optimizing “off the shelf” automated manufacturing technologies while enabling Product Design to determine product solutions Initiate, monitor, track and manage changes to annual and quarterly technology project initiatives. Ensure that all relevant new technology information is utilized & updated and is readily available to merchandising, design, development and manufacturing groups.Communicate the goals of each project with relevant development / engineering managers in HQ and branch offices to ensure that all groups working on new technologies understand the project guidelines, scope, key features and benefits, and technology requirements. Drive Design opportunities / constraints early in the product creation process via engineering standards and Best PracticesWork with Director of Development, Director of Sourcing and Director of Product Integrity on critical innovation projects on a seasonal and off line, long term basis. Innovation projects may include new processes, technologies, constructions and/or materials.Liaise with internal Columbia Sportswear Innovation groups to brainstorm new concepts, develop strategic technology plans, R&D processes, material innovations, cushioning concepts and further development of Columbia's Omni-Tech umbrella of technologies.Collaborate with development, merchandising design teams and branch offices with up-to-date information on new technologies, development challenges, costing, engineering requirements, and other information to ensure that relevant parties, suppliers, factories and other partners are informed of company technology and innovation initiatives.
YOU ARE

YOU HAVE
Bachelor's and/or advanced degree in various schools of Engineering, Materials Science or equivalent. Successful graduation from accredited footwear trade school in lieu of degree accepted Minimum of 8 years progressive experience in developing and manufacturing athletic, outdoor and/or casual footwear Experience with Asian, domestic and European production, development and working in Asia and other sourcing markets are preferred Floor manufacturing experience a plus Extensive knowledge of footwear manufacturing techniques, off the shelf automation engineering techniques, patterns, material innovations, footwear tooling knowledge, last development, commercialization and production processes Comprehensive knowledge of footwear construction and materials, including but not limited to leather, fabrics, micro-fibre, plastics, urethanes, rubber, EVA and other polymers Knowledge of latest technologies in footwear engineering and manufacturing, including industry standards such as Delcam suite of offerings Focus on automated / computer aided technologies a key Knowledge of quality assurance inspection techniques for footwear Communication often involves subjects of a technical or complex nature Possess excellent time management and organizational skills
