Crew Worker II
Salary: $16.20 Per Hour without CDL, $18.30 Per Hour with CDL

General Description:

The purpose of this class within the organization is to lead and participate with crew performing general labor duties and maintenance in the Water and Sewer department. This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.



Minimum Training and Experience:

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. Requires six months in general labor work, including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair, or construction of water and/or sewer lines or closely related experience. Some knowledge of pipefitting and plumbing is helpful. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.



Special Certifications and Licenses:
Commercial Driver's License (Class A), or the ability to obtain and maintain within 6 months of hire. Other training provided after hire and required to maintain position includes various safety training such as defensive driving, bloodborne pathogens, fork lift, hazard communications, slips and falls, chainsaw, GIS, CityWorks, and Water & Sewer certifications for distribution and collection systems.



Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge of skills, procedures, codes, regulations, etc. needed to complete job tasks.
· Knowledge of the precautions necessary to work safely with and around mechanized construction and maintenance equipment.
· Knowledge of the types and uses of common hand tools, materials, and standard equipment used in general maintenance, construction, and repair.
· General knowledge of water systems, plumbing, piping, valves, meters, hydrants, and other appurtenances.
· Ability to follow correct procedures and make good decisions.
· Ability to understand and carry out specific oral or written instructions.
· Ability to perform manual tasks involving physical strength and endurance under variable weather conditions.

Essential Functions:


Assists in maintaining water system and equipment to eliminate lost time and optimize system performance. Operates medium to heavy duty trucks, construction, and mechanized equipment. Must obtain forklift certification for loading/unloading pipe as needed for jobs. Operates hand tools and various machinery to repair leaks in water system and appurtenances. Maintains valves, hydrants, and equipment associated with water distribution operations. Makes miscellaneous repairs and adjustments to plumbing and appurtenances. Responds to emergency facility/field situations as required and assists throughout the event. Meets with customers; assists in resolving customer complaints regarding service. Ensures compliance with division's policies and procedures, standards of quality and safety, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in area of responsibility. Work is organized and well-planned; writing is legible; measurements and calculations are correct. Operates various machinery from small equipment to hand tools, including chainsaw, Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities. Leads the work of subordinate crew workers and other support personnel as assigned, including instructing, assigning, reviewing and planning work of others, maintaining standards. Offers training, advice and assistance as needed; inspects work in progress to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, standards, quality and safety. Performs all other duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.

Central City Concern project crew worker job description

This position requires day long manual bike riding of a three wheel front load bike/trike, with a maximum capacity load of 200lbs for up to eight hours a day in all weather. The rider will travel around the Central Eastside Industrial District (CEID) providing special project clean ups. Work to include ensuring a quick response to the cleaning up of messes including potential bio hazard waste (urine, feces, vomit, spills) throughout the CEID. The rider will engage with the CEID business community to ensure the community's needs are met and a positive image and awareness of the Clean Start program is promoted.

JOB TITLE:
Clean Start Crew I -Special Projects Bike



HOURS: Varies



DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:


Immediate response to special projects calls, via bicycle. Complete removal and clean up of urine, feces, vomit and other bio-hazards. Complete removal of all graffiti, posters, adhesive stickers and handbills. Provide assistance to Clean Start employees that are working in the CEID as needed. Removal of all trash and debris from sidewalks, as needed. Complete cleanup of business entryways, including cardboard, debris removal and spray down with water tank During inclement weather, assist checking all district sidewalks for standing water. Puddles and surrounding area on sidewalks to be treated with de-icer. Rake and clean areas where leaves have fallen on sidewalks and other pedestrian areas. Responsible for all bicycle maintenance on both CEID bikes. Liaison for the CARE team. Support NW Enforcement for cleaning assistance in areas that folks are camped. Liaison to the Ground score program. Help and support the Ground score team with any cleaning needs. Train all new bicycle cleaners. Backup trainer for sidewalk cleaners. Responsible for all new cleanup requests that come in overnight. Attend all required meetings and training. Adhere to safety procedures. Adhere to all state and federal privacy and security regulations applicable to the program, and to CCC policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


Ability to ride a front load bicycle/trike for up to eight hours a day in all types of weather. Ability to safely ride in the CEID. Ability to use cleaning agents such as soap, polish, disinfectants, etc. Ability to walk, bend, stoop, lift, and carry 10 to 50 pounds. Ability to do overhead work. Ability to learn the proper use of cleaning equipment and supplies. Ability to learn applicable safety policies and procedures, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and the ability to apply workplace and job-site safety standards. Ability to manage time and meet deadlines. Ability to interact courteously with the general public on the telephone or in person. Ability to comprehend and apply written and oral instruction. Ability to work in all adverse weather conditions including but not limited to rain, wind, heat, cold, snow, and ice. Ability to work all days and all shifts.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Must be able to effectively communicate and receive calls from the dispatcher. Must be trained or be able to be trained in bio-hazard cleanup. Must have at least two years experience in riding a bike in high traffic areas. Must have at least two years experience with graffiti identification and removal. Must have at least two years experience with biohazard disposal. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, TB Test and background check. Must be able to read, write and understand English. If a recovering chemically dependent person, must have sufficiently stabilized sobriety with a minimum of six months clean and sober. May be required to carry an agency cell phone for work use. If required, cell phone will be provided by Central City Concern. Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform duties. Must generally have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull and lift heavy objects and climb stairs. Must adhere to agency's non-discrimination policies.
