Job Description

Albemarle Corporation is seeking a Project Engineer for Project Development of Sustaining Capital Projects supporting the Kings Mountain and New Johnsonville, TN manufacturing facilities. Working with the Project Development Team Project, the primary function of this role is to help plan and execute multiple site projects in the development stage. The Project Engineer is accountable for achieving safety, operability, schedule, and cost goals on assigned projects. Candidate must be highly motivated to manage and develop multiple projects from concept through SELECT (FEL1 through FEL2) with a cross functional team.
Responsibilities
Work with cross functional team to define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with stakeholders, including meetings, setting of priorities, evaluating comments/requests and ensuring stakeholder's approval.Ensure adequate engineering tracking and reporting controls are established to evaluate the project's progress and schedule performance. Works with project management as well as contracting & procurement to ensure requirements are included in scope as the project moves to DEFINE (FEL 3).Research, interpret, and ensure compliance with regulatory and design codes and standards. Maintains awareness of changing requirements and considers them in engineering designs.Review technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems. Ensures constructability reviews are used in project phases to validate the completeness and operability of designs. In coordination with project manager, leads the development of the design basis for all project technical disciplines.Collaborates with the engineering functional team on the conceptual and front-end engineering design efforts, utilizing approved engineering service providers where needed, for capital projects that will be used to obtain funding and project approval Verifies drawings and design details of existing facility are up to date prior to the start of designs.Communicates directly with outside equipment and material vendors to specify, obtain quotes, and follow up on early purchases of equipment and services.Ensures teams (internal and external) review and revise engineering specifications and standards as required by supervision or as needed to ensure compliance with industry and regulatory requirements Develops or enhances project tools and engineering guidelines used to standardize engineering design parameters and processes Participates in HSE reviews, permit audits and housekeeping inspections. Ensures that process hazard analysis open/action items are adequately addressed in engineering deliverables prior to full project funding Maintains quality and timeliness of safety activities and deliverables throughout the project delivery process.Leads project team in generation and review of engineering technical documents.Ensures compliance with company procedures and project documentation requirements.Helps coordinate project controls and cost forecasting, in collaboration with Project Controls lead.Assists in developing project schedules and estimates Helps prepare project updates and reporting to site/corporate leadership Maintains effective communication throughout the project life cycle Work effectively with internal and external customers to meet project objectives
Essential Qualifications
Prior engineering experience in petrochemical or specialty chemical plant setting. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and 3-5 years of engineering experience in a chemical plant setting.A leader in safety on assigned projects including setting expectations and being visible in the field.Ability to judge the quality of engineering and construction documents.Ability to drive project definition and secure team alignment.High level of ownership with assigned projects.Experience with SAP project module and other basic SAP transactions is a plus.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field required. Prefer Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree

Responsibilities
Strategically identify, pre-qualify, and connect with customer decision makers to develop opportunities for comprehensive solutions including, but not limited to, energy conservation measures and renewables;Formulate successful strategies to increase sales activities and ensure annual goals are exceeded;Successfully develop, organize, strategically position, prepare and issue winning proposals and presentations;Assume overall responsibility for the development of all aspects of the proposals;Perform energy savings calculations and financial evaluations of proposed projects;
Exhibit comprehensive knowledge and understanding of entire proposal and contract terms;Cultivate and foster both internal and external customer relationships; and Perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent (Engineering preferred)

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional Engineering license (PE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and/or LEED AP preferred
Proven track record of developing and securing sales of complex offerings from management.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
Demonstrated lead development skills, including the ability to build project scopes and assess constructability of systems.
Ability to perform energy saving calculation using spreadsheet and/or building modeling software

Sparkfund is hiring a Solar Project Development Engineer to provide design, application, and consulting services throughout the project lifecycle, from early conceptual designs to fully engineered drawings, scopes, and pricing. You will collaborate internally with Sales, act as a SME on customer-facing presentations, perform or manage site audits, as well as manage implementation partners like EPCs to oversee contracting, costing, scheduling and commissioning. As an “in-house expert”, your responsibilities will involve interacting directly with partners, vendors, and customers to provide technical expertise and guidance on engineering assessments, feasibility studies, including appropriate financial analysis, as well as support our Delivery team during implementation and ongoing operations and maintenance for commercial and industrial applications.

This position reports directly to the Head of Engineering Management, and works closely with members of the Sales, Revenue and Operations teams. You will partner with our Program Management and Business Development leads to sell under and alongside some of the largest and most recognizable brands in the energy industry. What you'll be doing Represent Sparkfund's partners in the market with senior buyers and support complex transactions that require creativity, problem-solving, and a complete command of the industry.Provide a high level of technical leadership internally and externally.Support and manage the preparation of solutions, pricing, and proposals to support internal project development processes for commercial and industrial applications.Provide design-assist input from an asset lifecycle perspective for electrical equipment and infrastructure to ensure asset life is maximized.Provide consultative engineering services, including preparation of technical reports and support with presentation material. Perform engineering calculations; review equipment specifications, system design and sizing, system layouts; and lead equipment selection discussions with vendors and external partners.Manage external engineering resources through the formal design of systems, when necessary.Generate high-level cost estimates to better qualify opportunities for early-stage projects.Work with OEMs, equipment distributors, and installation subcontractors to build turnkey pricing for well qualified opportunities. Perform field investigation and support implementation administration.Coordinate timely and accurate handoff of data and customer information to and from multiple internal stakeholders, including our Program Management, Business Development, Engineering, Deal Structuring, Legal, and Delivery teams as needed.Bring lessons learned back to the larger Sparkfund team and help build out the tools and processes of a robust commercial organization.

What you'll need to be successful5+ years of relevant experience in PV solar applications, electrical system design, equipment application, and/or electrical distribution system maintenance.Electrical design/drafting experience creating and/or analyzing single-line diagrams for electrical distribution systems. Ability to conduct load analysis, feasibility assessment, and optimization at the systems level.Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), permitting for retrofits, installations and electrical upgrades, and other applicable codes and standards for commercial and light industrial facilities. Familiarity with safe operating procedures for electrical equipment and other auxiliary equipment, grid interconnection systems, and ISOs. Ability to support interconnection applications as needed.A track record of exceeding goals. Proven ability to demonstrate good judgment and composure in difficult situations and with incomplete information.Comfort tracking and documenting details associated with multiple projects.Demonstrated mental agility and ability to switch between contexts quickly.

We'd love it if you have Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering.PE license in any US state.Experience working with or within Utilities, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Resilience, or ESCO industries.Competency in software and cloud-based information management tools including Salesforce, Google Workspace, Slack, Asana, Excel, PowerPoint, and project management tools.Familiarity with the energy services and financing industries, including financing solutions; leases, loans, or energy service agreements.
