Project Engineer: path to Project Manager:

The Project Engineer's role is to assist the Project Manager and Project Superintendent with the overall management of project execution with emphasis on coordination of work, procurement and expedition of subcontractors and suppliers, and the identification and resolution of design drawing conflicts. The Project Engineer also participates in the preconstruction effort including estimating and purchasing.

Mazzella Companies project field engineer job description

The Project Engineer will plan, initiate, and oversee the execution of a project, often working with multiple internal team members, contractors, and clients. Plan, direct and coordinate the operations and sales of process cranes and modernization project(s).
Responsibilities

1. Manage and direct the field activities of process cranes and modernization projects.
2. Primarily responsible for the planning that occurs before a project is started.
3. Involvement in the quoting process, with the customer and upper management to ensure that they have a clear understanding of the project as well as the customer's desired goals and outcomes.
4. Determine what resources, processes, and other materials will be necessary to complete the project in the desired timeline, and also to create schedules or plans for every phase of execution.
5. Ultimately responsible for the final quality of a project, ensuring that it is delivered on time and to the client's satisfaction.
6. Enter service orders, purchase orders and all job related information into the enterprise systems as needed or required.
7. Travel to job sites is required, as needed, for sales, operations, estimating or customer relations.
8. Since the final project plan must account for the Company's time and financial requirements, in addition to the client's quality expectations, must be capable of performing the complex calculations necessary for risk assessments, resource allocation, and budgeting.
9. The direction and management of on-site field service crews and/or subcontractors; works with the field service crews and subcontractors to ensure all aspects of the job are complete.
10. Once a project is underway, must be able to maintain a clear and accurate picture of all simultaneous and overlapping parts of the process; this may involve regularly checking in with multiple teams and departments (or vendors) as well as reviewing work following the completion of each stage.
11. Assist and oversee the scheduling of process cranes and modernization's for customers and the planning service for the existing service crew or subcontractors; ensure that all work in the active jobs report is scheduled or tentatively planned on the scheduling board (could be e-board or other).
12. Ensure all paperwork, including service orders, time sheets, expenses reports etc. are completed accurately and on a timely basis.
13. Resolve all customer complaints to the satisfaction of the customer and in the best interest of Mazzella Companies including Progressive Crane and other affiliated entities.
14. Report all potential warranty claims to respective vendors and/or Mazzella personnel.
15. Maintain on-going communications with the sales people (or staff), as appropriate, regarding problems or issues related to managing the project.
17. Conduct, on a regular basis, spot inspections and audits of the technician's equipment and vehicles for proper function, possession and use of safety equipment, line stock and general conditions.
18. Provide supervisory and managerial support as required, including discipline; ensure all problems and employment actions are reviewed with the appropriate manager.
19. Oversee routine changes to the active jobs report, as needed; ensures the active jobs report reflects current status of any active modernization work and is updated as needed.
20. Supervise the purchase of supplies for jobs; processes the proper purchase orders through established procedures.
21. Monitor the profit level of all modernization and/or crane jobs.
22. Organize as well as participate in the monthly planning and goals meetings.
23. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
• A high school diploma or GED is required; trade school, military or crane service training program preferred

Experience & Skills
• At least 2 years in an industrial maintenance environment or equivalent military experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required
• Willingness to stay educated in the crane industry; as cranes become increasingly sophisticated, service techs need to be increasingly computer literate and technologically savvy.
• Valid driver's license in good standing that meets company requirements
• Heavy Lifting/Pulling (min 75 lbs.) is generally a part of this type of work and because of the nature of the duties
• Ability to work at heights greater that six feet of the ground
• Field Project Engineer standard schedule is 40 hours per week but must have the ability to work varied hours, overtime and on-call as required to meet customer needs
• Requires solid written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated mechanical and electrical aptitude
• Strong analytical, conceptual and planning skills are required
• Excellent math skills and overall PC literacy (Microsoft Office) are required
• Must be detail oriented, self-motivated and disciplined with the ability to multi-task
• Must successfully complete a criminal background check, physical, drug screen and E-verify
