This is a temporary, on-call position that will require immediate response for the wide variety of On-Call services RKI has to offer. Individuals MUST be currently located within the greater Austin area. The Temporary/Seasonal Archaeological Field Technician shall assist the RKI Cultural Resources Compliance (CRC) team with a variety of projects, including but not limited to pedestrian surveys, shovel testing, field site documentation, National Register of Historic Places eligibility testing, unit excavations, and data recovery efforts. The Temporary/Seasonal Archaeological Field Technician may also support the laboratory processing and curation preparation activities associated with projects. This position will support the firm's objectives of meeting our clients' expectations in a timely manner and lead by example to set high standards for creativity and inter-office and intra-office cooperation. Serves as Field Technician on various cultural resource projects. Conduct archaeological investigations for survey, testing, and data recovery projects. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or Historic Preservation, or a closely related field and the completion of an accredited archaeological field school. Minimum of one-year related experience Knowledge of and practical experience with archaeological field methods and techniques. Possess a valid driver's license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet company's auto insurability requirements Ability to work independently. Ability to read and understand instructions, labels, reports, etc. Ability to effectively communicate information both written and oral and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with the Principal Investigator, Project Archaeologist, and other employees of the organization. Meet with supervisors of contractors, engineer/architect representatives and/or other project leads on project sites to discuss and coordinate testing, sampling or inspection of construction materials or construction procedures. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, focus vision, depth vision. Work environment includes potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction or roadway sites; potential exposure to hazardous dangerous chemicals and solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration; all of which would require the employee to implement and follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment. Regular use of non-complex machines and equipment and hand tools such as sledgehammers, shovels and picks. Work assignments are frequently performed outside in all weather conditions.
