Summary:
As a Laboratory-qualified radiation control technician 2 (RCT 2), provides routine radiation monitoring support to Laboratory operations as a member of a deployed team in the health physics operations group, RP-1.
Independently performs workplace surveillance of radiological conditions, investigates unknown radiological conditions, and provides analysis/interpretation of radiological data to recommend proper controls. Provides operational health physics support to facility programs and radiation work permits. Provides direction for radiation protection activities to ensure compliance with procedures and 10CFR835. Participates in responses to radiological emergencies. Work is performed under supervision and is reviewed for quality, overall adequacy and accuracy. Instructions received are usually detailed and specific. Most job functions performed under detailed procedures. Work is normally expected to be of sufficient significance to have some impact on the outcome of an entire project or group.
Consequence of error may include serious radiological safety events, including injury to self or others, as well as noncompliance with 10CFR835, with potential for Laboratory fines under the Price-Anderson Amendments Act.
Work involves moderate physical demands, such as lifting and carrying radiation protection instruments and wearing personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection. Work may be outdoors and may be scheduled at time other than regular work hours.
RCT 2 is considered a semi-skilled level for those who have gained sufficient experience or training to perform routine tasks independently. Incumbent has good knowledge of the job and Laboratory policies and principles. Frequently uses and applies technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques. May perform some non-routine tasks requiring the exercise of independent judgment. Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity. Job includes some responsibility for end products. Incumbent works under general supervision. Follows established procedures for routine work. Supervisor provides detailed instructions for new assignments. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy.
Education:
Position typically requires a high school diploma and one-to-two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

T his position involves pulling orders and loading trucks with products from a refrigerated warehouse using load sheets and schematics. English language proficiency required. Previous warehouse or material moving experience is preferred.
