POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Nurse of Pre-procedural and Post-Anesthesia Care Units, as part of Peri-Operative/ Surgical Services is a clinically competent Registered Nurse in the areas of Pre-and Post-operative area, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit; working within the provisions laid down by the Nevada State Board Of Nursing, N.R.S. 449- and N.A.C
Education: Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing, Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred
Licensure: Licensed in State of Nevada – Registered Nurse
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in Peri-Operative Services, for either Endoscopy, Pre-& Post Operative Care unit, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. Or ICU required to qualify for consideration
Certification: ACLS Certification from the American Heart AssociationPALS Certification from the American Heart AssociationBLS Certification from the American Heart AssociationModerate Sedation-in-house certification CPAN, and/or membership of ASPAN preferred

Job Summary and QualificationsAs a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), you will plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care for assigned patients. You will direct and deliver comprehensive nursing care to post-anesthesia and post-operative patients.
* You will complete an age-appropriate assessment on each assigned patient and create a specific plan of care upon patient arrival
* You will obtain supplies, equipment, and medication needed for patient care
* You will monitor the patient throughout the recovery phase
* You will identify and correct airway obstructions, ensure uninterrupted oxygen therapy, and extubate patients
* You will administer IV therapy
* You will recognize and report variations in patient condition to the appropriate individuals (physician, anesthesiologist, clinical nurse coordinator)
* You will monitor patients for adverse reactions prior to transport from Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
* You will make rounds to check equipment cleanliness and appropriate storage
* You will monitor narcotic and medication control
Job Requirements
Experience
* 1 year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse (RN)
* Previous acute care experience - preferred
Education
* Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN)
* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - preferred
Licenses and Certifications
* Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License. If Compact License, Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David's Healthcare policy
* Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification per St. David's Healthcare policy

Scope of Service
Surgical Services Pre/Post has 7 pre-operative beds, including one isolation room and 9 post-operative/procedure beds, including one isolation room, which can be used for both Phase I and phase II patients as needed. Surgical Services Pre/Post hours of operation are from 5:00 am to 7:00 pm with a call team available 24/7 for emergency surgeries or procedures. Surgery services provided may include General, Urology, Orthopedics, Gynecologic, Plastic, Dental/Maxillofacial, Otolaryngology, and Minor Neurosurgery.
Responsibilities
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for coordinating clinical care of patient. Integrates all health care providers to ensure high quality patient/family outcomes, and establishes a consistent and accountable relationship with patient/family. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, initiation and development of the plan of care, patient/family education, utilization management and discharge planning.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Essential functions- Continuous: lifting up to 1/2 lb., seeing, hearing, talking, grasping, fingering. Frequent to continuous: standing, walking, stooping, forward reaching, handling. Operates various machines/tools/work aids.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Inside work. Exposure to body fluids, blood products, and communicable diseases. Work environment may be highly stressful, fast paced and hectic. Assignment to inpatient adult psych areas and Family Treatment Center includes occasionally accompanying patients outdoors. Management of confused/disoriented and combative patients may involve tasks which may compromise physical safety.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Education/Certification and Licensure:
1.Licensure: Registered Nurse, State of Hawaii
2.Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing; Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred.
3.Current BLS/HCP card in all areas; ACLS, NALS and/or PALS in designated areas.
4.Ability to read, write, speak and understand English effectively.
Additional Requirements
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
Current ACLS certification required.
PALS certification required.
CPAN/CAPA certification preferred
B. EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year PACU Phase 1 RN experience within the last five (5) years.
One (1) year ICU RN experience required within the last five (5) years.
