The Render Technical Director (TD) works with other production departments and dailies teams to ensure required renders complete successfully, identify problems, independently debug them, utilize generalist skills to fix shots and assets, and coordinate efforts with other departments, as needed. The TD Render will be proactive in getting ahead of issues and engaged in anticipating needs of production.
Job Functions
Provide technical support to all of production in the areas of rendering, disk utilization, and workflow. Debug memory problems such as Out Of Memory errors and memory leaks caused by heavy geometry, heavy shading networks, large texture files, large effects installs, render instance malfunction, motion blur, dense fog layer passes, and expensive lighting trace paths. Monitor work proactively to improve sets and assets performance. Manage render time and memory resources. Build test cases to identify the root cause of production scene breakage. Work to reduce noise, eliminates fireflies, improves low quality fog layers. Decode system output logs/stats to diagnose heavy or failed renders. Work within confined Time/Memory limits, establishing ways to enable delivery of extremely large assets from Effects Department to Lighting Department, without compromising the integrity of the intended packet. Help optimize renders to ensure fast turnaround and reasonable render times and memory. Picture debugging, fixing faulty shading introduced by poor micropolygonal dicing. Eliminate unnecessary trace paths to enhance render performance. Identify low sample areas that need improvement while installing appropriate sample fixes. Collaborate with Effects and Lighting artists to develop solutions to correct visual artifacts; debug efforts in cleanup and fix artifacts in our final images to ensure they meet our high visual standards. Assist all departments with setting up review renders needed at all phases of production; run sequence reviews, controlling playback, and respond to needs of the room. Interface with production, systems, and tools to address technical issues in these overlapping areas. Guide problem solving conversations across departments. Monitor renders on the render farm, disk space organization, and ensure efficient usage of systems resources.


Qualifications
Specializes in rendering using RenderMan. Education in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related field. Required skills include scripting / programming in C, C++, Python, or similar languages, as well as familiarity with one or more key production software programs such as Maya, RenderMan, Nuke, Katana, or Houdini. Heavy familiarity with computer visual effects concepts such as rendering and compositing. A strong eye coupled with a strong sense of technical cost, guiding sequences towards the right solution for a problem. A helpful, customer-service attitude coupled with a dedicated sense for debugging complicated pipeline issues. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required for communicating with the team, management, and other departments. Ability to switch contexts under pressure, transitioning amongst solo and collaborative tasks. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, open to direction and responsive to changing production needs with calm professionalism.

Brookfield Properties has an immediate need for a Renderer & Graphic Designer at the corporate office in Chicago, IL.



In conjunction with the Sr. Director Design, this role will provide layouts and design plans related to leasing and/or business development activities, ensuring successful completion of same. Foster collaboration between all internal and external project team members.

Responsibilities


Responsible for handling multiple projects of varying degrees of difficulty. Participate in monthly project meetings to review each assigned project in accordance with policy and company directions. Brainstorming with the Leasing, Business Development and design team to come up with kiosk and image ideas. Preparing and designing rough draft illustrations according to Development, Leasing and Business Development direction. Proficient in Proliance and/or any BPR project management software utilization, both financial and planning modules. Defining any budget or time limitations. Communicating productively with management to keep them up-to-date with project milestones Refining image design using illustration software. Enhancing the design concept using a wide range of colors and graphics. Formatting final illustrations using CAD or Adobe software. Ensuring that printed illustrations meet specified color and quality standards. Producing consistently excellent visual work Producing a host of ideas, selecting the best ones and selling them to the other members of the team. Ability to function the job remotely Must review design and project documents as they progress for cost, feasibility and completeness, as well as assist with management of the design process (and changes) and provide value engineering options. Responsible for implementing and following all department policies and procedures established by the EVP, Construction, Design &Dev Admin. and SVP, Planning and Design. Coordinate design activities of owners, agencies, department stores, tenants and utility companies in order to assure the desired project schedule, budget and quality are achieved. Responsible for the implementation of any BPR adapted sustainable design initiatives (LEED). Initiate L-W exhibit creation and/or review, in partnership with Leasing and Tenant Coordination Project Manager (TC PM), to establish Landlord (LL) deliverables and project scope. In conjunction with TC PM, identify and resolve conflicts between tenant design and existing building conditions


Qualifications


Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or related Design field 5 years experience in practice of Architecture, Industrial Design or Retail Design 3 years of experience in retail design Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign, SketchUp, AutoCAD; Word; Excel Ability to analyze and implement project based budgets and forecasts Excellent project management and organizational skills. A Rendering team member is responsible for tending equipment used to render and process animal source material including animal fat, bones, meat scrapes and rendering tallow from fat.


Position Reports To:
Rendering Shift Supervisor


Core Responsibilities:

  • Completes inspection of equipment to determine if sanitation is adequate to begin rendering process.
  • Assembles rendering equipment including expellers, grinders, pumps, pipes, blades, cooking tanks.
  • Tests equipment to determine proper functioning.
  • Opens valves and starts pumps and conveyors to move materials through rendering process.
  • Monitors temperature gauges and rate of flow and condition of materials passing through cookers, expellers, and grinders; adjust valves and rate of flow.
  • Dumps guts, bones, tissue, and other inedible parts into a chute leading to storage containers for cooking tanks for inedible processing.
  • Labels storage containers as "Not for Consumption".
  • Contacts maintenance mechanics for troubleshooting equipment malfunction
