We have an exciting full-time Patient Care Resident opportunity on our Cardiopulmonary unit at Methodist Hospital. This 32 bed unit is unique in that it is an acuity adaptable unit. This means that the nurses care for Med/Surg and progressive level patients. This unit has a strong foundation of excellent team collaboration. Care provided for these higher acuity patients, including ventilated patients, allow for additional growth opportunities for our nurses.

The Patient Care Resident (PCR) works under the direction of the registered nurse (RN) as a non-licensed team member. As a non-licensed team member, the PCR provides care to designated patients and supports the patient care team. Job duties include observation of the registered nurse, provision of activities of daily living, mobility assistance, continuous observation including suicide prevention, and ensuring the patient's surroundings are clean and orderly.

+ Requires PCR to have graduated from nursing education program that is accredited by a national organization.

+ PCR will sit for the NCLEX exam within six-months of hire into this job

+ Requires current Basic Life Support certification

+ Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

What you will do:

A residential assistant would work with our nursing team assisting the residents with activities of daily living, passing meds, making beds and providing personal care.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide each of the assigned residents with routine daily care by assisting with direct resident care duties and indirect resident care duties, as directed by the charge nurse, and/or certified nursing assistants.
Essential Job Functions:

* Assist residents in dressing and personal hygiene.
* Assist CNA's with residents requiring 2-staff transfer except in mechanical transfers.
* Make occupied bed.
* Assist in obtaining weights.
* Provide full or partial bed bath.
* Perform incontinent care in bed to residents who can move in bed.
* Assist residents who are not on swallowing or aspiration risk with meals.
* Pass, set up, and collect trays.
* Place belongings within resident's reach (call light, glasses, TV remote, glasses, etc.)

* Check fall precautions: bed monitor, mats, and personal alarms.
* Check and clean dirty wheelchairs after each meal or after incontinent episode.
* Check and clean tub and shower room.
* Greet newly admitted residents upon admission, escort to room as necessary, receive paperwork from referring agency, and inform Unit Manager/Charge Nurse of arrival.
* Assist with inventory of new admissions.
* Assist in arranging for and making appointments for diagnostic therapeutic services.
* Direct visitors to residents' rooms, office areas, etc.
* Photocopy and fax per the needs of the unit.
