Under general supervision, performs technical and skilled inspections of residential buildings and structures in all stages of construction, alteration, and repair to assure compliance with related City ordinances and codes.

* This position performs duties deemed to be "safety-sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City's policies*
Essential Job Functions

* Inspects new buildings, additions to buildings, and alterations of existing buildings for compliance with the currently adopted edition of the International Residential Code.
* Inspects residential plumbing, mechanical and electrical installations being constructed, altered or repaired to assure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations.
* Verifies appropriate inspection fees or re-inspection fees.
* Reads and interprets adopted codes, technical manuals, drawings, instructions, and specifications as related to construction projects.
* Performs stormwater and erosion control inspections.
* Inspects residential construction site conditions.
* Notifies contractors of code violations and follows up to ensure compliance.
* Identifies problems or situations as they occur and specifies decision objectives; identifies or assists in identifying alternative solutions to problems or situations; implements decisions in accordance with prescribed and effective policies and procedures.
* Meets with the general public and builders to provide information and to answer questions.

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a State Inspector License as a Residential Building, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing Inspector within one year from date of employment.

Our team of interdisciplinary code professionals work collaboratively to assure designs comply with all requirements of the international codes. Our history with local and regional jurisdictions and tribal governments includes plan review, field inspection, and safety consultant.

Residential Building Inspectors are responsible for approving simple to complex residential construction based on applicable codes, ordinances, and administrative directives enforced by our jurisdictional clients.

This includes reading, interpreting, and enforcing approved plans and calculations; working directly with developers, contractors, and customers to identify, document, and assist in resolving issues to gain compliance in all residential codes; understanding construction methods and product applications; evaluating compliance based upon the specific conditions of each construction project, including the scope of work to be performed, nature of work, age of existing building, codes applicable during the original construction, and present code requirements; and maintaining field result paperwork and files.

**Your Key Responsibilities**

+ Inspecting from approved plans, calculations, product specifications, and other documents.

+ Communicating plan and code nonconformance issues and approvals via written or electronic correspondence and issuing utility clearances.

+ Driving to field sites and inspecting construction sites for plan and code compliance.

+ Creating and maintaining inspection records and entering results as directed by clients.

+ Advising applicants when deficiencies are discovered regarding client processes, inspection times, expedited services, and alternate inspection options.

+ Maintaining code knowledge through code update research, obtaining certifications, and participation at continuing education seminars and classes to maintain certifications.

+ Assisting client, Stantec peers, and customers in clarifying requirements and resolving issues.

**Qualifications**

**Your Capabilities and Credentials**

_Knowledge of:_

+ International Code Council Residential codes, jurisdictional ordinances and directives related to building, structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and energy codes for residential projects.

+ Various construction materials, methods, and stages of construction.

+ Microsoft Office at a proficient level.

_Ability to:_

+ Cooperate with internal and external Stantec clients and the public.

+ Read and accurately interpret plans and specifications.

+ Objectively interpret and consistently apply code requirements and related standards in accordance with department policies.

_Additional Requirements:_

+ Must possess ICC Residential Building Inspector certification

+ Shall obtain at least one other ICC inspection certification in mechanical, plumbing, or electrical within six months.

**Education and Experience**

Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience inspecting from approved plans, schedules, and other data to ensure proposed construction conforms to site appropriate codes and related regulations. Other combinations of experience and education meeting the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Field inspection requires city driving, bending, twisting, walking on uneven surfaces, exposure to the elements including inclement weather, and wearing/maintaining PPE (personal professional equipment).
