Job Summary

The Senior Database Developer is responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of all operational and reporting database systems. The Senior Database Developer constructs conceptual, logical, and physical data models and develops and maintains business logic within stored procedures and ETL transformations.

Job Duties

Deep experience in developing high volume, scalable, data-intensive database systems. Designs and develops operational and reporting database systems utilizing the latest techniques in data modeling and ETL concepts. Models database solutions and ensure quality assurance and timely delivery of data. Investigates, troubleshoots and corrects data and user related system errors, and ensures data integrity. Excellent knowledge of data transformations of all types including calling custom scripts, applying complex logic etc. Manages SQL Server in enterprise environment, including installation, configuration, backup, recovery, upgrades and schema changes. Translates stakeholder requirements from formal requirements document into database design. Contributes to support an IT roadmap that is forward thinking and sets the groundwork for reducing maintenance cost while meeting or exceeding business objectives. Promotes a constructive, positive team environment and maintains a spirit of openness, information sharing inquisitiveness, problem-solving and support for common goals. Ensures compliance with Exeter's policies & procedures, safety, state and federal laws, regulations and standards.



Education and Work Experience


Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field of study. Eight (8) years minimum of job-related experience with SQL Database Development, TSQL, Stored Procedures, OLTP, and working with large data sets. Azure Cloud experience, ADF, Azure Synapse, and Data Lakes are preferred skills.

What you will be doing

AmerisourceBergen is looking for a passionate, innovative and experienced Senior Database Developer to join our Data Warehouse Team. This key role supports our exciting transformation of data delivery operations to carry ICS into the coming decades of growth. This position is responsible for designing new and efficient data processing methods and refactoring current operations to match new standards. This role will collaborate closely with Business Intelligence, EDI, Account Management many other groups. The position is a split between new development and operational production support, lessons learned from support will provide the insight needed to improve our platform and overall efficiency. This role is located in Carrollton, TX with hybrid on/off-site flexibility


Monitoring and leading database development requests through their lifecycle and ensures that the technical solution meets business requirements. Design of new centralized data processing methods and implementation of refactored code to meet the new standards Evaluates designs from other groups and team members to ensure optimal efficiency and performance and supportability. Ensures code walk-thru of systems solutions is completed. Supports the ongoing operations, Level 3 and On-Call support. Ensures all documentation (Data Mapping, Technical Specifications, Production Support, data dictionaries, test cases, etc.) is provided according to standards. Examines post-implementation continuous improvement efforts in enhancing performance and helps developers to create and or performance tune database queries. Provides technical assistance and mentors staff in relation to database design and development. Ensures data management standards, policies, and procedures and single source data strategy is adhered to. Develops work plans or reviews other work plan timelines and manages workflows to meet project timeframes. Provides status to stakeholders. Contributes to strategic planning meetings and provides guidance and expertise on system options, risk, cost vs. benefits, and impacts on business processes and goals.



What your background should look like



BA/BS degree - highly desired or related experience Ten (10) or more years of experience with SQL Server - T-SQL Eight (8) or more years of experience with ETL Design and Implementation Three (3) or more years of experience with SQL Server Administration Five (5) or more years of experience with Data Warehouse Database Design Three (3) or more years of transactional Database Design experience



One of the following


Four (4) plus years of experience with PowerShell Four (4) plus years of experience with C#



Nice To Have


3PL Experience is a Major Plus AS400, RPG Knowledge Four (4) plus years of experience with MS Windows Server Administration MS Azure

A Sr. Database Developer contributes to AHF's mission by building strong and lasting client relationships through excellent interpersonal skills, and working with Partners and Directors to develop compelling propositions which target relevant client issues. The Sr. Database Developer works not only within the IT department but also outside the IT arena. He/she masters business processes and advocates for data governance, and other initiatives, which will lead to better reporting.

The Sr. Database Developer strives to build a data-driven culture. Within their duties of designing, building and enhancing database systems for complex high-level reporting requirements, critically review results of analytics to make recommendations on process improvements, vendor remediation, and changes to strategic approaches. This position has the opportunity to help enhance focus on assisting clients and provide right type of data and information to the right people in a timely manner.

The Sr. Database Developer will work closely with executive management and stakeholders to understand and define data and reporting requirements while maintaining the highest levels of customer satisfaction by establishing interpersonal relationships, understanding the business needs, staying aligned with business objectives, delivering on commitments and establishing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. In addition, giving feedback to their manager about how service could be improved will allow the team member to enhance their contribution.

The Data & Analytics team will be enhanced by the Sr. Database Developer's focus on assisting clients and executing their strategy by optimizing the documentation and use of information, and delivering a quality end product.
