Senior enterprise architect job description

The Senior Architect, Enterprise Architecture will play a significant role in the definition and implementation of an over-arching application strategy, including architecture, design, and roadmaps. The successful candidate will perform work that is highly complex, varied in nature, and span multiple functional areas, though being focused in one or two. This individual will also seek to ensure the optimum utilization of existing system platforms and their integration while considering and / or facilitating the justified deployment of new technologies in response to business requirements. Primary responsibilities will include:

Assessment and definition of integrated, cross-functional solutions required for the resolution of complex technical and / or business issues
Management, leadership, and / or coordination of solution discovery / gap analyses Management, leadership, and / or coordination of activities associated with business blueprint, application systems design, realization, and implementation, especially as related to cross-functional activities / initiatives Active support for the establishment of and participation in design, architecture, and portfolio governance processes and review committees Support for the definition and development of the solution / application architecture and strategy Guidance / training of more junior staff, which does not have a direct reporting relationship This key role will lead / drive these activities, not through direct staff, but through the more challenging and vital management traits of influence and collaboration. This individual will manage / lead through the matrixed management of other resources, including but not limited to technical analysts, systems engineers, as well as business and functional SME’ s.

As a Senior Architect, you must have experience designing applications and services in a hybrid cloud/on-prem environment and have experience implementing both batch and real-time data solutions. The Architect will be responsible for projects being developed for retail customers & will be responsible for migrating Mainframe applications to Cloud (AWS/GCP/OCI). The main responsibilities for this position include:

Make well-informed decisions with deep knowledge of both the internal and external impacts on teams and projects. Foresee shortcomings ahead of time and be able to drive to resolution.

The Architect will serve as technical thought leader and SME for our Public Cloud ecosystem of Partners, customers, and service providers.

Work as part of the consulting team to support the design and implementation of the cloud solution. Develop Proof of Concept projects to validate new architectures and solutions.

The Architect recommends, evaluates, and implements methods to optimize and enhance the application with the cloud environment to maximize performance and minimize costs. This will be an excellent opportunity to augment your current skills as well as learn new technologies while developing and implementing solutions.

Develops and maintains technical roadmaps, design diagrams, application Arch diagrams, and innovation plans.

Develops infrastructure designs that optimize the potential for application refactoring and re-platforming.

Creates and presents technical roadmaps, solution designs, options, ideas, and innovations to the leadership.

Work with Product Owner to understand functional requirements and interact with other cross functional teams to architect, design, develop, test and release features
Work on highly scalable applications on-prem/cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP/OCI)

Work on Multiple Programming Languages not limited to: Java Spring framework, containerization, microservices, APIGEE, Scala, SQL, C++ programming in a Windows/Linux environment, IBM Mainframe, CICS / COBOL and associated test/development tools, JCL, DB2 for Z/OS, TSO/ISPF, SQL, VSAM, Assembler, synsort, pdm, throughput manager, and APPC.

Use various data formats such as JSON, Parquet and Avro.

Experience with messaging like Kafka, IBM MQ, Apache MQ preferred

Identifies potential process improvement areas and suggests options and recommends approaches

What youll do on a typical day:

Determines and gathers work estimates for projects.

• Define and maintain all aspects of solution, technical, integration and data architecture for LTL applications and ensure that the architecture is the best fit for LTL considering cost, complexity, and speed of execution.
• Coordinates technical tasks with tech lead and project manager and helps the team deliver solution in a timely manner.
• Identifies and communicates risks to the business; investigates and proposes new tools and frameworks to deliver quality products faster.
• Research new technologies, maintain roadmap of adopted technologies, conduct Proof of Concept/Technology, build and maintain developer tools, maintain standards, patterns and best practices, code review, ensure code reusability and use of standards, patterns and best practices to drive consistency across all applications.
• Guides teams in creating technical designs that meets the functional and performance requirements
• Mentors' developers and helps resolve technical roadblocks; recognizes organizational/team challenges and address them with management.
• Define and maintaining standards and patterns, developer tools, technology upgrades, and mentoring and guiding developers thru adoption of standards and patterns, tools and technologies.
• Meet project schedules and ensuring the delivered solution meets the technical specifications and design requirement

What you need to succeed at XPO:

At a minimum, youll need:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work or military experience
• 2 years of demonstrated experience in an architect role

Itd be great if you also have:

• 8+ years relevant software development experience including creating business applications with relational and non-relational database systems, within a fast-paced software development environment.
• 4+ years demonstrated experience in an architect role.
• Experience in at least three of the following: Java, Angular or other modern JavaScriptframeworks, Database design/Modeling, SQL, API design, Cloud Technologies (GCP desirable)
