This position is hybrid based from St. Louis, MO or Cincinnati, OH or Louisville, KY


Summary:


This position is responsible for performing engineering tasks on multiple projects concurrently that may contain a high degree of technical difficulty, making decisions and recommendations that are considered authoritative and have important impact on engineering discipline design decisions leading design responsibility as an engineering discipline lead and acting as a project manager on small projects. Managing and/or assisting with clients to develop new business.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


Applying sound and diversified knowledge of discipline engineering principles and practices in broad areas of project assignments Initiating and maintaining extensive contacts with key engineers and officials in other organizations to confirm that engineering practices applied are consistent with current engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and current technological innovations Providing input to Project Managers and the Business Unit Leader concerning potential process and design improvements related to engineering design and technology Managing all projects that are assigned by the Business Unit Leader (BUL) to ensure the projects meet all required project measurements and indicators for performance which have been set by either the client or internally. These performance indicators include, but are not limited to, schedule performance, project budget performance, project profitability, client relationship and satisfaction, and project quality control. Maintaining, implementing and monitoring a system of quality control and check on all projects assigned Maintaining a system to accurately forecast fee revenue on an ongoing monthly basis Monitoring the training needs of individual staff members who are direct reports and identifying and scheduling training programs with the BUL Providing key support to the BUL in all business development activities Assisting in preparing proposals for the business unit by estimating engineering hours as an engineering discipline lead Developing and maintaining quality relationships with clients Maintaining a collaborative spirit in working with other Business Units providing the most optimum project team for projects often using personnel from multiple Business Units Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as necessary


Required Qualifications:


Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university Registration as a professional engineer is highly preferred 8+ years of work experience, 4+ years of work experience in the refining, chemical, petro-chemical or manufacturing facility Collaborative approach to problem solving Strong oral and written communication skills Ability to build relationships with clients and staff members Strong technical engineering expertise (expert level) related to one or more engineering disciplines Strong industry contacts and knowledge of the industry Unquestioned business and personal integrity

Your Opportunity
In this role, you will apply buildings mechanical engineering principles, your superior client service skills, and project management best practices to deliver projects that meet project requirements, exceed client expectations, and meet project financial and other objectives. Working within our thriving buildings practice, you will contribute to project delivery standards and work processes, provide quality control, workload forecasting, financial performance accountability and collaboration with other disciplines. Your Key Responsibilities
Successfully manages projects and tasks of a scope, complexity and revenue budget appropriate to experience. Applies buildings engineering and project management knowledge while leading multi-discipline resources to meet project requirements within established timeframes and budgets. Shares knowledge with others by serving as a trainer, mentor and resource. Provide oversight for Mechanical Engineering staff in San Diego Holds project team members accountable for deliverables. Meets technical, contractual, schedule, budgetary and client service objectives for each project. Applies strong mechanical engineering skills, experience and knowledge to the design and oversight of the design, for building projects. Manages and plans the production resources and workflow to produce the design documentation, drawings, and calculations required for mechanical engineering projects. Act as QC reviewer on projects. Effectively delegates work to production support staff. Nurtures existing client relationships and proactively pursues opportunities for new business. Develop project proposals Develops and delivers project related client presentations. Maintains and expands current knowledge of technologies and trends, as they apply to the applicable project and market types, and continually strengthens skills. Proactively pursues additional knowledge in related disciplines by attending available in house and external training. Attends and leads in-house project meetings. Actively participates in meetings, initiatives, and projects that support studio and firm-wide goals.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
Experience successfully delivering Mechanical Engineering projects to Architects and Owners in diverse markets including commercial, lab, higher education, life sciences, civic, government, data center, and healthcare. Client consulting experience. Understanding and implementation of the principles of project management. Ability to manage clients, projects, fee, scope and teams to achieve budget, schedule and deliverable objectives while meeting key stakeholder critical success factors. Fundamental understanding of California codes (incl. CBC, CMC, CPC, and CFC) Familiarity with, and ability to produce, project-related documents and documentation standards required of a Project Manager. Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines to deliver a coordinated design. Familiarity with and ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects while maintaining the process driven requirements of the project Strong client communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to apply logic, reasoning, and organizational skills to structure concepts and ideas into projects. Knowledge and experience to identify and manage items of risk that may occur on projects. Knowledge and experience to identify and manage potential unanticipated scope. Functional knowledge of BIM software; in particular, Revit MEP. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.


Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field plus 7-10 years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated skills. Professional Engineering license is preferred. Project Management Professional certification, LEED AP credential, ASHRAE Healthcare Facility Design Professional (HFDP) certification and familiarity with various construction delivery process, such as Design assist and Design-Build is preferred.


Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Responsibilities



Field survey of existing mechanical, fire protection, and plumbing systems Design of mechanical systems for the built environment for a variety of projects including healthcare as well as institutional and educational facilities Preparation of construction documents including drawings, specifications, calculations, and details Serve as Project Mechanical Engineer leading the mechanical discipline as well as provide guidance to other disciplines for mechanically driven projects Approval of mechanical submittals and aid in RFI responses during construction administration Perform quality reviews of select mechanical designs
Qualifications
12+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program Professional Engineering required Intimate knowledge of New York City & NYS Building Codes Able to meet strict deadlines and work well under pressure and work on several projects at once Strong communication skills and project level leadership skills with clients and team Experienced in engineering and design computer software to complete assigned projects which include AutoCad and Revit
