Responsibilities

Nuclear Medicine Technology is a medical specialty that utilizes radioactive materials to make diagnostic evaluation of the anatomic and/or physiologic conditions of the human body and to provide therapeutic treatment with unsealed radioactive sources.

Under the direction of a licensed authorized user or license designee, you will apply the art and skill of diagnostic evaluation and therapeutics for all ages through safe and effective use of radionuclides.

You will provide support to multiple sites, including but not limited to Westwood, Santa Monica and Santa Clarita as requested by the chief technologist, according to business need.

In this role you will apply knowledge of radiation physics and safety regulations to limit radiation exposure of the general public, patients, fellow workers, and self to as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Patient interviews, instruction, and care

* Preparation, quality control, calibration, and administration of radiopharmaceutical compounds

* Handling/preparation/witnessing and administration (under direct MD supervision) of adjunctive medications

* Execution of patient imaging and therapeutic procedures including computer processing and image enhancement

Responsibilities

This position performs a full range of Nuclear Medicine Technology, PET/CT, and in vitro procedures; implementing extensive experience and attention to detail to help ascertain the diagnosis and/or treatment of patients as an integral part of the Nuclear Medicine Health Care Team. Incumbent works independently, under general supervision of the Technical Supervisor and Division Chief. Maintains and operates equipment according to manufacturer's operation manual and Nuclear Medicine protocols; reporting all problems using the established UCDH Policy and Procedures, and Department of Radiology Policy and Procedures. The technologist must act with initiative and responsibility to achieve maximum image quality and radiation safety.

Required Qualifications

* Possession of a valid technical certificate for California State Certified Technologist, Nuclear Medicine (CNMT), licensure by NMTCB and/or ARRT (N) is required.
* Previous experience in a substantially similar role required.
* Knowledge and ability to operate Nuclear Medicine and auxiliary equipment for assigned modalities to provide quality images.
* Knowledge and ability to work safely in an area with ionizing radiation and/or high magnetic field.
* Knowledge and experience with PET/CT, Cardiac, Oncology and computers. Extensive experience with a full range of Nuclear Medicine Technology; including nuclear cardiology and in vitro procedures.
* Physical ability to perform all functions of a technologist including moving and manipulating equipment; moving, manipulating, and transferring patients weighing up to 400 pounds on/to/from exam table, with assistance as needed; performing patient exams.
* Ability to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as the Nuclear Medicine field advances.
* Ability to remain flexible with scheduling changes throughout day to accommodate patient care needs and handle a high patient volume in a high-pressure department with constantly changing priorities.
* Knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology, physiology, radiobiology, physics, chemistry, math, statistics, and nursing techniques related to Nuclear Medicine Technology.
* Ability to use basic nursing skills and CPR.
* Knowledge and ability to use computer terminal. Ability to input and retrieve data and to observe applicable Radiology Information System (RIS) and Information Services (IS) access codes, security, and privacy.
* Knowledge of standard keyboard, ability to input/retrieve data accurately and to observe applicable Radiology Information System (RIS) and Information Services (IS) access codes, security and patient privacy.
