Computing Services is searching for a Sr. Unix System Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by being responsible for server management within the central group supporting enterprise-wide systems.
Your core responsibilities will include:


Systems administration and support: Maintain and administer UNIX servers and related computer systems, including operating systems software, applications software, and all configurations. Examples of maintenance include performing routine system hardware and software upgrades on a periodic basis. This may include larger projects. Systems Development: Scripting or programming experience, particularly for automating administrative tasks and deploying Infrastructure as Code solutions. The ability to support, maintain and develop these infrastructure tools and associated code. Testing and troubleshooting: Subcategory of "systems administration and support" and "systems development" specific to higher level problem resolution and quality assurance. Documentation: Ensure that all system administrator projects and procedures are documented, including design documents, ongoing status reports, and summary reports. Document and log all changes to system software and configurations. Edit and revise project justifications, project documentation, and other reports and documents. Systems Configuration: Subcategory of "systems administration and support" specific to configuration of various software packages, both involving our internal support structure and target applications. Architecting systems: This category includes interfacing with the user(s) and sponsor(s) and all other stakeholders in order to determine their (evolving) needs; generating the highest level of solutions requirements, based on the user's needs and other constraints such as cost and schedule; performing cost-benefit analyses to determine whether requirements are best met by manual, software, or hardware functions; partitioning large solutions into (successive layers of) subsystems and components; ensuring that a sufficiently robust Keep current with new technologies. Continue to develop leadership/professional qualifications through continuing education, further schooling, and technical/professional reading. Responding to trouble tickets and other requests from users. Other Duties as assigned.

You should demonstrate:



Thorough knowledge of programming code (e.g. Ruby, Python, Perl) and version control systems (Git) to support systems, tools, APIs, and internal processes. Deploy and support modern RHEL releases and supporting Systems Management tools (e.g. Puppet Enterprise, Ansible, Terraform, etc)



Qualifications:



Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field. At least 4 years of UNIX systems administration experience in an enterprise environment supporting High Availability solutions. Or a combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is proven

Title: Sr Systems Engineer UNIX

Responsibilities


· The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for designing significant new functionality with a consideration of performance, stability, and supportability.

· Review and provide feedback on business requirements to fully leverage technology to improve business functions.

· Defines standards and design patterns or paradigms for system development within a team.

· Actively participate in the planning and implementation of systems, infrastructure and related hardware and software.

· Provide advanced troubleshooting for infrastructure, networking, security, and application issues. Provide project architecture and oversight with in depth technical expertise on infrastructure projects.

· Assess and recommend architectural designs, changes to customer systems in response to business or technical drivers.

· Contribute to written proposals and develop technical documentation.

· Provide leadership to the team operational and technical areas. This includes participating in a 24 7 On Call rotation for Priority Level 3 and higher service calls.

· Develop strategic direction and road maps for all aspects of the Unix infrastructure

· Sent design standards regarding system and project planning

· Provide final level support for Unix administrators as needed in their duties working on complex issues where analysis of situation and data requires evaluation of intangibles and data relationships

· Ensure Unix Admins are doing proper monitoring and tracking of the health and performance of the Unix infrastructure adhering to SOX and audit regulations

· Participate as Unix Project Manager in Infrastructure involved projects

· Supporting Kubernetes Platform solutions both On Prem and Cloud Operations

· Demonstrated support and deployment of high availability Linux, AIX P Series Environments

· Subject matter expert for specific technologies within the Infrastructure practice (e.g. AIX OS, HACMP, Ansible, Kubernetes & Scripting).

· Demonstrates problem solving skills that span the application, middleware, and infrastructure levels. Ability to clearly communicate problem resolution process to customers or management.

· Actively participate in the planning and implementation of systems, infrastructure and related hardware and software.

· Provide advanced troubleshooting for infrastructure, networking, security, and application issues.

· Collaborate with technical staff, including project managers.

· Provide project architecture and oversight with in depth technical expertise on infrastructure projects. Be able to serve as a Lead Engineer on engagements and work directly with Project Management, Account Management and Customer teams.

· Assess and recommend architectural designs or changes to customer systems in response to business or technical drivers. Customer liaison for solutions including presentation of design and deployment strategies. Contribute to written proposals and develop technical documentation.

· Mentor and cross train technical staff.

· Understanding daily administration of Linux servers, AIX, and SAN based mass storage assignment.

· Able to configure, integrate, maintain, debug performance issues, analyze recovery, and address user issues on standard Unix Platforms.

· Highly Knowledgeable around ESX VCenter Tasks including; Deployments, Cloning, Migrations, and API Calls.

· Provide Scripting support and scripting abilities within Perl, Python and Standard Shell commands.

· Understand IBM Virtualization layer including HMC’s and IBM Power Series Frame deployments.

· Ability to troubleshoot and provide Performance Analysis and Capacity Planning for Linux and AIX environments.

· Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.


Qualifications


· Bachelor's Degree or combination of education or experience

· 10 plus years reasonable UNIX platforms vendor experience

· Linux Server Technology support for a minimum of 7 years. Any Devops experience would be a nice bonus

· Working knowledge of High Availability and Load balancing technologies

· Expertise in hardening, testing, and monitoring systems against possible security threats, with exposure to PCI and SOX standards

· Familiarity with SAN and NAS technology

· Knowledge of Kubernetes and Container Solutions
