Demonstrates knowledge and skills and maintains competencies required to provide care appropriate to age of the patients served within department. Assesses and selects proper techniques for a given patient study and circumstance. Informs and explains examination purposes and procedures to the patient prior to commencement of testing in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner. Performs various diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures as ordered by physician, consistent with patient care policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management, infection control practices, patient safety practices and departmental activities. * Practices proper aseptic techniques and universal precautions according to approved procedures. * Selects and prepares equipment and supplies needed for each procedure.
