Job Summary
The Cardiac Sonographer 2 performs basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound services. These include transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress tests for adults. Identify and define cardiac abnormalities. Extend the examination scope as needed. Deviate from standard techniques when necessary. Correlate invasive and noninvasive cardiac test results with cardiac anatomy and function.
May assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing echocardiograph studies. This aids them in proceeding with complex procedures to decrease risk factors.
Assist in performing transesophageal studies with cardiologist, calculating appropriate measurements and sterilizing probe.
Record statistics and perform daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.
Act as a resource to other staff, physicians, and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures, and studies to optimize patient care.

Responsibilities
Perform diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure, providing quality images for interpretation.
* Set up and adjust all equipment and manually maneuver transducers to perform exams.
* Implement safety standards and perform appropriate quality control procedures.
* Perform routine and complex studies and assist in a variety of imaging procedures.
* Recognize significant structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations.
* Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
* Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
* Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.
* Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
Requirements
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
* BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
* One or more of the following required:
* Cardiographic Tech specializing in Vascular Interpretation credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
* Radiologic Technologist specializing in Sonography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Vascular Sonography (ARRT-VS) also accepted.
* Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Any specialty accepted.
* Radiologic Technologist specializing in General Practice credentialed from the Texas Medical Radiologic Technologist Certification Program preferred.
Education:
* High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical certificate/degree required.
