Responsibilities

  • Prepare and implement appropriate lesson plans and meet objectives.
  • Welcome potential new students and engage them as they complete trial days

Omsi special education science teacher job description

The Science Educator II - Special Programs delivers and facilitates engaging learning experiences, while providing excellent customer service to visiting guests and groups during Family Science Nights and Camp-In/Sub-Ins programming, which can include presenting classes and other programs related to specific content and topics booked through OMSI's Program Sales team. They also are responsible for understanding and following safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Essential Job Responsibilities

* Family Science Nights and Camp-Ins/Sub-Ins:
* Actively interacts with museum visitors while applying culturally responsive practices. Provides hands-on and engaging activities, demonstrations, exhibit interpretation, and conversations in assigned areas;
* Delivers standards-aligned hour-long programs based on specific topics that are booked through OMSI's Program Sales team;
* Ensures the safe opening and running of assigned area(s) under the direction of the program manager, or main point of contact for the day;
* Maintains safe, clean, and secure environments for guests. Performs walkthroughs to maintain appearance of public programming spaces;
* Remains knowledgeable of OMSI safety protocols and emergency procedures, which includes (but is not limited to) evacuations, first aid, and reconnecting lost children and caregivers.
* Staffs and provides temporary supervision and support in the following areas, as needed:
* Turbine Hall (Chemistry Lab, Physics Lab, Innovation Stations, and Teen Tech Center)
* Early Childhood Education areas (Curium and Science Playground)
* Featured Exhibit Hall
* Natural Sciences Hall (Life Lab and Paleontology Lab)

Working Conditions

* This position is non-exempt, paid hourly;
* This position is an on-call position, scheduled for <19 hours/week.
* This position requires working onsite at the museum during evening hours, as scheduled in coordination with the program manager.

* Physical Demands: 20% sitting, 70% standing, 5% crouching/bending/stooping, and 5% lifting/carrying/pushing 25 lbs;
* You must be fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19 or qualify for an accommodation under the ADA for medical or religious reasons;
* Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, and sit on the floor multiple times a day;
* Ability to clean surfaces and pick up items multiple times a day.
