Key Responsibilities
Ensure consistent daily operations across the Aquatics Center in accordance with department standards and local code
Supervise and support the lifeguard and aquatics operations team in delivering high-quality safety and service
Oversee and regularly audit pool chemistry, water quality management, equipment functionality, and cleanliness
Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures for aquatic safety, venue readiness, and preventative maintenance
Serve as a liaison between Aquatics and departments such as Facilities, Events, and Venue Operations
Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new aquatics staff; lead internal drills and audits for safety preparedness
Participate in capital planning, equipment specification, and operational input for aquatic-related projects
Assist in the development and delivery of internal training programs (e.g., Lifeguard, CPR/AED, emergency response)
Respond to incidents and serve in a leadership role during facility emergencies
Backfill key aquatics operations roles when needed to maintain operational integrity
What You Bring
Minimum 3 years in an aquatics operations leadership role in a year-round aquatic facility
Associate's Degree (AA/AS) or 60 units toward a Bachelor's degree required
Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding and Lifeguard Instructor certifications
Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification
EMT (VA/NREMT) certification preferred or ability to obtain within one year
Strong understanding of pool system operations, safety standards, and emergency preparedness
Proven ability to lead teams, enforce standards, and coordinate with internal departments
Physically capable of meeting lifeguard and rescue readiness requirements, including strength, endurance, and water competency
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with audit or maintenance tracking software is a plus

Assemble and deliver equipment to prepare venues for various sports practices, games, and events
Strike and stow equipment in order to stage venues for incoming activities.
Provide crowd control coverage, including gate control, ticket sales, participant administration, usher, and other event related duties.
Provide game operations coverage, including clock operations, scorekeeper, safety monitor, and other sports game related duties.

Support Sports, Events, and Venue Rental staff with operational requests, questions, and activity needs
Assist in sports league administration, including registration facilitation, maintaining rosters, and monitoring practices/events.
Provide sports specific venue support, including painting, minor maintenance, and cleaning activities.

Electronic Medical Records (EMR) & Compliance
Select, implement, and manage an EMR system for documentation of injuries, treatments, and progress tracking.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations and all relevant athletic healthcare standards.
Maintain up-to-date medical records and ensure accessibility to authorized personnel as needed.
Staff & Program Management
Build and lead a growing sports medicine team, including athletic trainers and interns.
Coordinate and provide on-site coverage for practices, games, and events as necessary.
Serve as the liaison with external healthcare providers, specialists, and hospitals.
Communication & Collaboration
Maintain consistent, proactive communication with coaches regarding student-athlete health, availability, and return-to-play timelines.
Educate student-athletes and families on injury management, health best practices, and performance recovery.
Participate in performance team meetings and collaborate on holistic athlete development plans.
Infrastructure Development
Build and refine protocols, workflows, and emergency response plans for a high-performance youth sports academy.
Ensure proper equipment, supplies, and facilities are in place to support safe and effective care delivery.
Contribute to the strategic vision for sports medicine at The St. James Performance Academy and implement scalable solutions as the Academy grows.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BOC Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC)
Eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in Virginia
Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, or a related field
Minimum 5 years of professional experience working in sports medicine, preferably in a youth, scholastic, or high-performance environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, or related field
Experience implementing or managing EMR systems (e.g., Healthy Roster, ATS, etc.)
CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor certification

Monitor aquatic environments and enforce safety protocols

Participate in drills, ongoing skills training, and performance assessments

Qualifications
18+ years old by start date
Strong swimmer with calm, confident presence under pressure
Current (or in-progress) EMT-B, NREMT, or EMR certification preferred
Current Lifeguard/CPR/AED certification preferred (we provide training if not certified)
Customer service, public safety, or team sports experience a plus
Must pass physical and skills-based tryout (see below)
Lifeguard Tryout Requirements
200-yard medley swim: 75 breaststroke, 50 sidestroke, 75 freestyle (under 3:50)
25-yard head-up sprint: under :20
25-yard dummy tow: under :50
2-minute hands-only CPR: with consistent quality
Additional medical skill evaluations will be required for EMT candidates

What You Bring
Bachelor's degree in Sport Management, Education, or related field (Master's preferred)
Minimum 7 years of coaching/program leadership experience, with at least 3 in a senior-level or head coach role
Proven track record of athlete development, team growth, and college-level placements
In-depth understanding of elite stroke technique, training methodology, and competitive pathways
Experience managing staff and scaling multi-tiered swim programming
