Position Summary The Sterile Processing Tech is primarily responsible for assisting and supporting the nursing staff in the O.R. by maintaining adequate levels of sterile instruments and supplies used in rendering patient care. Roles and Responsibilities Functions as an Instrument Processing Technician under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse. Cleans and/or disinfects instruments and equipment after use and returns it to the proper area, in appropriate sequence, for storage and/or processing. Differentiates sterilization and disinfection methods required for specific instruments and equipment. Completes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established standards. Maintains area/department in an orderly/organized fashion. Assists teammates with daily preparation for current and future facility schedules (pulling cases and assembling supplies) as assigned. May act as scrub technician if experienced and needed in operating rooms or procedure rooms. Assists in room turnover when needed and as assigned. Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed or trained. Experience Requirements Prior relevant experience in a health care environment Knowledge of sterilization procedures, aseptic technique, and maintenance and care of instruments and equipment. Knowledge of standards and engages in practices and procedures of sterile technique. Demonstrates ability to understand and use sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, instrument washers, and other designated processors. They also perform environmental maintenance duties and assist in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the clinical area and in equipment storage. Plus, other duties as assigned.
