Pay range starts

EDUCATION AND SKILLS


High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in central sterile services preferred. Certificate of completion from a formal central sterile processing technology course preferred. National certification preferred. Ability to work independently and adhere to specific guidelines. Detailed and procedure oriented. Must have predictable and reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

This position works as a key team member to support Central Sterile by securing implants and related instrumentation needed for surgical procedures, tracking, repair and replacement of the required implants and related instruments. Will also facilitate the instrument and equipment intra-facility loan/borrow process.



Qualifications

Education:

Requires high school diploma or equivalent. One to two years' college education in business or health-related field, or related experience in distribution or inventory of medical supplies and equipment preferred.

Experience:

Two years' experience with any combination of Surgical Scrub Tech, Central Sterile Tech, and/or procurement of supplies, services and equipment preferably in a hospital setting required. Prior experience with surgical instrumentation strongly preferred.

Skills:

Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions, medical terminology and knowledge of medical supplies and equipment required. Requires familiarity with purchasing and inventory control standards and practices, ability to effectively speak, read and write English. Must demonstrate attention to detail.

Trinity Health sterilization specialist job description

**General Summary**

The Central Sterile and Reprocessing Specialist (CSR) is responsible for cleaning all contaminated instruments and materials from Main OR, ASF, Labor and Delivery, Cath Lab, Hemodialysis and Emergency Room. This includes loading and operating the washers, assembling instrument trays and operating autoclaves, while maintaining quality standards. The CSR circulates case carts after receiving preference cards from surgical sites. The CSR also responds to requests for unexpected needs and emergency items 24 hrs a day 7 days a week.

**Essential Functions and Responsibilities**

1. Cleans contaminated instruments and trays using proper cleaning techniques that include knowledge of manufactures recommendations for care and handling. Uses proper attire and safety standards. Understands OSHA guidelines regarding body substance isolation.

2. May clean and assemble vendor instrument sets/specialty instrument sets and maintain relationships with vendors **.**

3. Reprocesses vendor/specialty instrument sets and trays using advanced techniques.

4. Operates complex washers utilizing proper quality and safety standards.

5. Understands need for hand washing of micro instruments and electronic devices.

6. Assembles and labels instruments for sterilization. Understands the differences between instruments and completes sets with minimal errors. Able to assemble sets from multiple services such as orthopedic, neuro, cardiothoracic, general surgery, ENT, urology, _gyn,_ and plastic surgery.

7. Autoclaves items based on manufacture recommendations. Understand quality parameters for autoclave. Understands the operation of steam andsterilizers. Review sterilizer output before releasing items for storage or use.

8. Performs quality controls as required by regulatory bodies.

9. Performs routine housekeeping chores, including but not limited to trash, soiled linen disposal, damp dusting, wiping 'down cupboard/cart shelving, sterilizer/washer interiors/exteriors/countertops and work surfaces.

**Required Education, Experience and** **Certification/Licensure**

+ Requires minimum of High School Diploma or GED.

+ Successful completion of an accredited Central Sterile Reprocessing program or six to twelve months of relevant experience desired.

+ Certification in Sterile Reprocessing desired. If non-certified, must obtain certification within one year from date of hire.

**Required Skills and Abilities**

1. Ability to teach/precept team members in specialized instrumentation reprocessing.

2. Ability to maintain productivity standards established by the department for specialized instrumentation. 3. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and reprioritize duties based on changes in volume.

4. Ability to use effective interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain relationships with vendors, customers and peers.
