Responsibilities Ascend ladders, open railcar doors, and set bridge plates for vehicle unloading. Unloaders are trained to inspect, unload, and bay vehicles. Safely drive a vehicle off a ramp with varying degrees of elevation and limited clearances. Unload new vehicles from railcars and drive vehicles to the designated area in the railyard. Climb ladders to multiple heights to gain entry to train cars. Lift objects and drive heavy equipment (unloading ramps). Bending over in confined spaces at times. Adhere to all safety protocols and OSHA regulations. Job Requirements: Wear required PPE Able to climb ladders on railcars to a height of 16 feet. Be able to gain entry to the railcars by means of the railcar ladder. Able to remove bridge plates between railcars at heights of 16 feet. Able to lift 50 lbs. regularly. Open and close the end doors of railcars. Physically able to work on your knees while removing tie-down devices. Able to work in close quarters. Work in all weather conditions. Essential Physical Demands/Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to drive a vehicle most of the time. Must be able to sit and drive for extended periods (up to 12 hours at a time); use hands to operate machinery. May need to stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, reach, climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Frequent exposure to contaminants such as fuel or exhaust. May occasionally wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed. May need to work in cramped spaces that could require getting into awkward positions. May be exposed to extreme temperatures, extreme lighting, and high noise levels. Daily travel will be required by drivers making deliveries and extensive overnight travel may be required.     Metals USA has an immediate opening for a Material Handler in the Waggaman, LA Facility. The Material Handler performs duties related to the storage and movement of inventory or equipment. Duties and Responsibilities: Receives, places/returns items into stock inventory locations. Tags materials for proper identification Pulls and assembles customer orders in order of delivery. Operates yard truck for the purpose of loading and unloading trailers. Operates cranes to load/unload trailers. Operates forklift (5k or 10k) to load/unload trailers. Securing loaded material onto truck and may load and unload materials. Completes and documents production and quality paperwork; follow shop system data collection procedures. Performs tasks that include grinding and using an oxy fuel torch. Maintains work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe manner, including the return of tools and equipment to designated areas. Assures all machine operation centers are timely loaded with material for production. Notifies management of product discrepancies, equipment malfunctions and/or personal injuries. Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Material Handler. Restocks material.
