Fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs production sheet metal products and equipment such as control boxes, drainpipes, antenna mounts, and avionics racks in accordance with blueprints, drawings, and specifications. Makes sheet metal layouts; sets up and operates fabricating machinery; shapes metal over anvils, blocks, or forms; and inspects assemblies and installations for conformance to specifications. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

Engineering Leadership Opportunity - Neutron Structures & Mechanisms
Based in Long Beach, USA, this is a key role in supporting the development of the Neutron launch vehicle where you will build a high performing team and complement Rocket Lab's global engineering organization.
In addition to you building a team in-house you will be required to manage external resources, suppliers, equipment and infrastructure teams that need to be established and maintained to successfully accomplish program objectives. Every day will be different, and you need to be capable of addressing direction to the program as required across the vast challenges that arise.

Skills/Experience:
- Background in aerospace development projects (10+ years)
- Proven capability with building (from the ground up) and running high performing teams
- Demonstrated technical background in structures and mechanisms development including design, test, operation of structures (metallic & non-metallic/composite), cryogenic propellant tanks, actuators, staging and separation mechanisms, critical load bearing structures, flight control surfaces
- Demonstrated experience in developing structures and mechanisms for launch vehicles and space vehicle applications
- Clear decision making under pressure
- Proven communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
- A high work ethic working leveraging Rocket Lab's global team and facilities

Responsibilities
* Able to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions, test procedures, etc.
* Able to setup and use a variety of precision measuring instruments such as: dial indicators, micrometers, gauges, protractors, and calipers, etc.
* Able to use common hand tools such as: drills, reamers, deburrers, files, rivet guns, bucking bars, etc.
* Able to assemble aircraft structures and associated components with the aid of jigs and fixtures by drilling, filing, filling, honing, reaming, counter-sinking, dimpling, burring and fastening under general supervision.
* With minimal supervision, perform close tolerance assembly operations such as: shimming, fitting, trimming, and aligning where variances may occur considerably from one assembly to another as with fairings and the mating of major structural assemblies.
* Able to replace ribs, stiffeners, stringers in skinned assemblies establishing from blueprints with firm callouts, butt, center, chord, station and water lines.
* Able to pickup blind hole locations for blank parts from existing structure. Also able to correct cans, buckles, wrinkles in outer skins
* Able to operate such equipment as brakes, grinders, band saws, and presses.
* Able to identify different types of corrosion, and with supervision clean and treat corrosion, remove damaged areas, fabricate parts to repair damaged area, determine rivet patterns, layouts, etc.
