Summit Medical Center company history timeline

1898

The first Elma hospital, built in 1898 by Doctor H. Blair, consisted of four rooms located on the corner of West Anderson and 4th St There was a surgery, where all supplies were also stored, a two-bed men’s ward, a two-bed women’s ward and the doctors’ office.

1913

The nine bed McCleary General Hospital was completed in 1913 and, for the first time, the town had a physician.

1918

In 1918, Doctor W.M. Conway bought out both Doctor Jones and Doctor French, closing the French Hospital.

1948

In 1948, William R. Reed, president of Simpson Timber Company, donated $100,000 to start a hospital fund in memory of Mark E. Reed, his father and previous president.

1949

Residents of East County also helped to raise additional start-up funds for the hospital project and formed a Board of Trustees in November 1949.

1982

In 1982 that the District voters formed Mark Reed Hospital, or Grays Harbor County Public Hospital District No.

1995

From a group of 35 local providers in Knoxville joining forces in 1995, Summit Medical Group has grown to more than 300 providers at 60 practice sites in 15 counties across East Tennessee.

Every day, Summit Medical Group’s providers, medical staff and corporate teams go to work with two main goals: to provide the highest quality, innovative care to our patient and to do it at an afforable cost to the patient. It was true when 35 Knoxville physicians started Summit Group back in 1995, and it’s just as true today.

2004

In August of 2004, Summit met the physical rehabilitation and dietary planning needs of its patient base by opening its first physical therapy center in Knoxville.

2016

The District was pleased to open the new 6,000 square foot building in April of 2016.

2018

In 2018, Summit’s model of care expanded nationally to Central Oregon, forming Summit Medical Group Oregon.

2019

Summit Medical Group and CityMD merged in August 2019 to enable greater access to high quality coordinated primary, specialty and urgent care.
